A Training Session with Heart
The Years 10-12 Certificate III Fitness students were assessed on their ability to program for and train special populations. The Marist Centre students were the ‘clients’ for the day and had a wonderful time, as you can see from the photos!
This enabled the integration of students across different cohorts and facilitated authentic dialogue, genuine compassion, leadership and Family Spirit.
Not only did this allow our fitness students to undertake an authentic assessment experience, but more importantly it allowed them to inspire others with their creativity, empathy and adaptability.
Galilee enjoyed a fruitful day out at the recent Athletics Carnival hosted by Tatachilla Lutheran College. We are thrilled to announce that we secured an outstanding 4th place overall.
Huge congratulations to Ayla, Phoenix, Grace, Archie, and Leo who have all been selected to represent our school in the South Districts Athletics team! They'll be competing at the Metro Track & Field SAPSASA State Championships on Tuesday 19 September.
We couldn't be prouder of all of our amazing athletes and we wish Ayla, Phoenix, Grace, Archie and Leo the best of luck!
We were thrilled to have 60 students from Years 3 - 6 represent Galilee at the SACPSSA Touch Football Carnival.
Mother Nature threw us a challenging day with windy, wet, and chilly conditions, but that didn't deter our incredible Touch players! They showed true grit and determination as they hit the field, demonstrating great competitive spirit and sportsmanship throughout the tournament.
The winter sports program at Cardijn College is thriving! Many of our teams achieved success in their respective seasons, as well as a tremendous amount of personal growth, both in skill and sportsmanship. Below we highlight just a few of the teams who excelled this season.
Basketball
Across Terms 2 & 3 our Middle School Basketball Squad 1, comprised of three teams, competed in the SAAS Middle A3/B3/C3 Basketball competitions. Our squad consisted of 25 students with a mix of year 7, 8 & 9 across each of the teams.
All three teams had outstanding seasons, combining for an overall record of 23 wins from 25 games.
Team C3 won all eight of their games, sitting in top spot on the ladder after every round and finishing their season off with a resounding win by over 40 points in their final game of the season.
Similarly, Team B3 finished their year on top of the ladder, going 7-1 but avenging a 1-point loss to CBC with a near 40 point win against CBC in their final game, to take outright top-spot in their competition.
Team A3, won their way through to the A3 Grand Final with a semi-final win over CBC before winning the A3 Grand Final with a tough 61-57 win over Gleeson High. This year was the first year that SAAS presented a commemorative shield to the A3 competition winners and our boys are very proud to be the inaugural A3 Shield winners.
Congratulations to the boys who represented Cardijn in the A3/B3/C3 teams this year for a fantastic effort.
Soccer
Our Middle C1 (Yr 7A/8B) Boys Soccer team finished top of their league after a fantastic season.
Cardijn's Girls Soccer Team won a nail-biting final game that ended in a penalty shoot-out.
Our First XI Soccer soccer team also had a fantastic season, making it through to a hard-fought grand final where they were unfortunately defeated by Blackfriars Priory School.
Netball
Congratulations to our Year 8B Netball team who won their grand final. The development shown by each of the girls throughout the season is a testament to their dedication to the sport and the strong camaraderie amongst the players.
There were plenty of highlights throughout the Cardijn Netball season in 2023. We are proud to have entered four Year 7 teams into the SACSSGSA competition, the most of any year level. Of the four teams, two made it into the Grand Final and two played off for Bronze, displaying positive signs for the future of Netball at Cardijn.
Well done to our Year 7C team who came out as premiers in their division. Despite battling low numbers on some occasions, our Year 8 & 9 teams showed some promising growth with many of the athletes involved in the Netball Academy programs. We encourage these girls to stick together and continue their netball journey at Cardijn as they are building into great units.
Finally, we were super impressed with our senior netball squad who were willing to represent the college despite balancing their studies and other commitments. Our Open B team were moved up two divisions due to their dominant performances across the season - great stuff girls!
Our Open A team was made up of mostly Year 10/11s and were competitive on most occasions. A highlight was their involvement in the Marist Carnival in Perth where they were able to improve their combinations on court and consistently apply the gameplan provided to them. We look forward to seeing these students progress with their netball in 2024!

Football
In the Wednesday night competition, our Open Boys Football team had another successful season, securing a spot in the grand final. Despite a solid effort, the boys were defeated by Adelaide High in a tough-fought battle.
In a thrilling showdown that had Cardijn College buzzing with excitement, our Open A Girls' and Boys' footy teams took to the field to compete in the 1st annual Marist Cup against Sacred Heart College.
Both of our teams represented Cardijn College with determination and sportsmanship. They embodied the true spirit of the game, showing resilience and teamwork throughout the competition. From the first bounce to the final siren, it was evident that our athletes were leaving it all on the field.
Despite their best efforts, both teams fell short in the end. However, the scoreline doesn't tell the whole story. Our players displayed incredible skills, heart, and passion, making everyone proud to be part of the Cardijn College community. The way they fought tirelessly until the final whistle was a testament to their commitment to the sport and their school.
Recognising outstanding performances, Ella Harris and Callum Bennett were named the Most Valuable Players for the Girls' and Boys' teams, respectively. Their dedication and exceptional skills were shining examples of the talent and character that define Cardijn College athletes.
While the final results may not have been in our favour this time, the experience gained, the friendships formed, and the lessons learned on the field are invaluable. Our Open A Girls' and Boys' footy teams have set a high standard for future competitions, and we can't wait to see how they continue to excel in the seasons to come.
Congratulations to our talented athletes, Ella and Callum, and to all members of both teams for representing Cardijn College with pride and sportsmanship in the inaugural Marist Cup. We look forward to more exciting matches and achievements in the future as our teams continue to grow and evolve.
We would like to thank Ms Gabbert, Mr Rabbett & Mr Hayes for taking time out of their schedules to coach our outstanding student athletes.
⚾️ Amazing to see Cardijn Year 12 student Nic hit this spectacular home run for Australia at the Under 18 Baseball World Cup in Taiwan.
The Aussies won the game 8-1 against Venezuela. Well done Nic!
Marcellin Campus' Crew H has been participating in a Lawn Bowls unit at Christies Beach Lawn Bowls Club. The students were taught the rules and skills used in the sport, were highly engaged and extremely well supported by the club professional. One of our students even got an invite for membership at the club.
The Year 9 and 11 Basketball Academy students were very fortunate to attend a training session with the NBL Brisbane Bullets. The experience was incredibly valuable, offering these young basketball enthusiasts a firsthand glimpse into the intricacies of professional basketball.
The students left the session with a newfound appreciation for the mental and physical demands of the sport, a greater understanding of basketball drills, and their aspirations set even higher. We thank Bullets Head Coach, Justin Schueller, for organising this session for our students.
In Year 10 Physical Education, our students are currently engaging in a dynamic strength and conditioning unit that's designed to enhance their physical fitness and overall wellbeing.
As part of this unit, our students had the opportunity to participate in a group session at Bio Fit, a unique and impressive fitness facility owned by Cardijn College old scholar, David Craggs ('06).
The session was an invaluable experience for our students, allowing them to apply classroom principles to real-world fitness settings and fostering a lifelong appreciation for a healthy lifestyle.
