Cardijn Connect - a source of news and information for the Cardijn community. The blog will be published every Thursday during the school term with past editions always accessible from the menu.
Last Friday, Galilee hosted the signing of the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) extension between the Catholic Education South Australia (CESA) and the Indonesian Embassy in Canberra.
This extension reinforces the commitment of both parties to promote Indonesian language learning, cultural exchange, and intercultural understanding in Australia.
The MoU was signed at Galilee by Prof. Mukhamad Najib, the Education Attaché of the Indonesian Embassy in Canberra, and Mark Corrigan, Acting Director, School Quality & Performance, CESA.
The event was attended by the Indonesian Consulate General, Mr. Vedi Buana, and his wife, Fanny Buana, along with members of the Indonesian community in South Australia, representatives from Flinders University, and other special guests.
Following the signing of the MOU, students participated in a variety of workshops showcasing Indonesia's rich cultural heritage, including traditional arts, music, dance, and cuisine from different regions of the country.
Our Arch D Leaders from Marian Campus recently participated in the Arch D Podcasting Leaders Day at the Catholic Education Office.
This event gathered young podcasters from Catholic schools across South Australia, giving them the chance to collaborate on writing and recording unique stories as engaging podcasts. Students benefited from the expertise of industry professionals like Laura 'Loz' O'Callaghan and Tom Basso, a former Arch D scholar and producer, both from Triple M.
We are proud of the confidence and leadership shown by our Arch D leaders as they guided their podcasting groups throughout the event.
We received positive feedback from students who thought the day was both educational and enjoyable.
“After leaving the excursion, I want to bring to CC Radio the ability to record more, work on building teamwork, and have more confidence in one another.”
- Sienna, Year 10 Arch D Leader
Last Thursday, Marian students attended the BiG Day In Technology conference. The event provided a unique opportunity for our Year 10 Digital Technology students to explore the world of technology and gain insight into university life. The conference featured eight sessions covering various career paths, opportunities, and the latest developments in technology, enabling students to make informed decisions about their future.
During breaks, students visited exhibitor stands to speak with company and university representatives, learn about courses, degrees, work experience, and internships, and engage with hands-on demonstrations of cutting-edge technology.
Last Friday, a group of Year Marian 10 students represented the College in the Science and Engineering Challenge at Flinders University.
"We formed small groups and competed against seven other schools to tackle innovative problem-solving and engineering activities, such as ‘Helter Skelter Shelter’, ‘Bridge’, 'ElectraCITY’, and ‘Confounding Communications’.
Towards the end of the day, when the competition was nearly over, we gathered in the lecture theatre watching as each school's Bridge was tested. Cardijn’s Bridge was one of the lightest and each time a weight was added, the lecture theatre was filled with cheers from Cardijn staff and students.
Overall, Cardijn came second, which was a fantastic achievement. A big thank you to Mrs Taylor and Mr Hards for enabling us to compete in this challenging and inspiring event."

The Year 11 and 12 Marian Drama students are performing the play 'Suspect to Change' in Week 9 from 25-27 June at 7pm. Tickets can be purchased from the Marian Campus Front Office ($5) and all proceeds go to the Road Trauma Support Team of SA.
It’s a comedy of errors involving love, friendship, misunderstanding, misplaced pride, and mistaken identity. There's a kidnapping, a jewellery heist, a purse snatching, and a fiancé wannabe who can't get in a word to pop the question.
We can’t wait to see you there!
👔🧦 Don't miss out on 20% off schoolwear at LOWES, available both in-store and online from 26-28 June for Zero and Rewards cardholders.
Year 6 Student Max represents Galilee at Onkaparinga South District Football Carnival
Congratulations to Max for being named captain! The three-day football carnival featured tough competition, and Max showcased outstanding leadership both on and off the field.
Galilee students Flynn, Year 6, and Hugh, Year 4 represented our Cross Country District team

It was a brilliant achievement for both boys to make the team. Well done, Flynn and Hugh.

Samara's dance team wins State Dance Championships, advances to Nationals
Year 7 Marian student Samara, and her dance crew, Mini Flava, achieved first place in the State Dance Crew Championships. They will now progress to the national competition held in Sydney later this year.
Samara's parents, Amy and Michael, would like to express their gratitude to Cardijn and the community for their ongoing support in purchasing chocolates throughout the year. The proceeds from these sales helped fund the expenses for the national competition.
Aerobics State Finals
Galilee's two Aerobics teams competed on the weekend in the State Finals. Their hard work and persistence has paid off because both teams scored high enough to go through to the Nationals in August this year. Well done to all Galilee Aerobics athletes.

Recently, the Motor Trade Association of SA/NT hosted their annual MTA 2024 Automotive Graduation and Awards Ceremony.
We are thrilled to congratulate Tanya Sanchez, Marcellin's dedicated Industry Engagement and Employment Field Officer, for being a finalist in the VET Coordinator of the Year category!
As part of the CITB Doorways2Construction program, the organisation provided Marcellin's Year 11 Construction and Electrotechnology students with fantastic kit backpacks! These kits are packed with essential safety equipment to help our students excel in their practical learning and future careers.
Doorways2construction is South Australia’s premier secondary school program for the Building and Construction industry.
Thank you to CITB for their generous support and for investing in the next generation of skilled professionals.
Approximately half of Cardijn students graduate with dual certification, their SACE and a nationally accredited certificate. Vocational Education and Training (VET) certificates provide students with the workplace skills and technical knowledge they need to meet current and future employment demands. Put simply, VET is skill-based education and training and can form part of your study plan at Cardijn in Year 10, 11 or 12.
In addition, VET qualifications can provide SACE credits at both a Stage 1 or Stage 2 level. The Pathways Expo is the only opportunity we provide to have all of our RTOs on site for students and families to ask key questions to discover more about these exciting opportunities, including suitability, content and how these opportunities may shape your future pathway in terms of employment and further study.
Recently over 40 students from the Marian YCS Team engaged in a social night held on campus. YCS is a student-run, faith-based social justice group that gives young people the opportunity to make changes in their realities, engage in personal growth and development, and connect with like-minded peers.
Throughout the year, we regularly hold social nights to continue building connections and foster a sense of ‘Family Spirit’ in our group. For the first part of this event, we played some old-school games, including a massive game of hide-and-seek.
During the second half of the night, our YCS team collaborated with YCW (the old-scholar YCS group) on their monthly action called SOL Music. At the SOL Music event, our Year 12 student Keira gave an amazing performance, followed by a fun evening of trivia, karaoke, and pizza.
Special thanks to our Year 9 MCs, Agnes and Elliemay, for making the night memorable.
A topic we have been speaking regularly about in recent times is student attendance.
In our context, consistent attendance at school is an essential factor in supporting a young person to experience success in their schooling. The graphic below shows the detrimental impact that ‘non-attendance’ can have at school and the long-term effects of this non-attendance.
By no means are we advocating for a young person to attend school when they are unwell. However, our continued partnership in motivating and supporting young people to attend school and access their learning is crucial, especially as we experience these cold wintery mornings!
If you have any concerns regarding your child’s attendance or would like more information about how to support your child in attending school more regularly, please reach out to the leadership team on your campus.
