Cardijn Connect - a source of news and information for the Cardijn community. The blog will be published every Thursday during the school term with past editions always accessible from the menu.
To mark Harmony Week, Ms Oxenham's Year 1 class took a hands-on approach to celebrate diversity by creating this sweet video of Rainbow to present at Community Prayer. This activity aimed to teach the students about cultural respect and unity through a practical and engaging project.
Mrs Stenson took her Mindfulness and Movement students to the beach for their last two lessons of the day, where they practised being mindful and present in their movements.
Students engaged in various activities: they sat quietly, explored shallow waters, collected shells, and built sandcastles. Others walked along the jetty, and one student overcame a fear of sand.
The weather was perfect, and it was such a great way to end the week
Year 12 Marian student, Milo was recently awarded the Best Teammate medal during the Sports Association for Adelaide Schools (SAAS) Blue Round!
The SAAS Blue Round aims to raise awareness about mental health in South Australian schools and communities. During this event, teams participate in various sports competitions to showcase their skills and sportsmanship.
Milo was awarded the medal, in recognition of his outstanding sportsmanship and teamwork playing volleyball against Westminster.
Congratulations Milo!
Year 4 students at Galilee are currently engaged in the Magic Harvest in Schools program, focusing on practical gardening activities. This week they prepared garden beds, removed invasive mint and old corn stalks, and harvested parsley seed.
The students also explored the garden's ecosystem, identifying various bugs and tasting the green beans they grew. This project aims to teach them about plant life cycles, pest management, and the benefits of growing and consuming their own vegetables.
Galilee's Year 8 students visited the Living Kaurna Cultural Centre as part of their "Exploring Tjilbruke" curriculum, where they participated in a weaving workshop with Indigenous Elder Aunty Janice. This educational trip aimed to deepen their understanding of Kaurna culture and traditions, specifically through the art of weaving, which holds significant cultural importance in the Kaurna community.
The Year 9 students at the Galilee Campus have been presented with an award by Australian Marist Solidarity for Marist Spirit. The money they raised through their Year 8 Steps to Success enrichment subject last year has contributed to the lives of young people in Bougainville, ensuring that educational opportunities continue to be made available to young people across Asia and the Pacific.
Our students from both the Marian and Marcellin Campuses shone at the Catholic Co-Ed Athletics Carnival, competing in a range of track and field events. Their performance led to an outstanding win of the Under 15s Victory Shield!
Congratulations to all the athletes for their hard work and dedication!
We congratulate Year 7 student Will, who won gold at the recent State Surf Life Saving Championships!
For four consecutive years, he's proudly held the title of State Champion, proving his extraordinary talent in the U12 Division 1 Beach Sprint.🏆
Despite being the sole representative competing in his gender and age group representing Christies Beach Surf Life Saving Club, Will's achievements stand tall amidst competition from larger clubs! But what truly sets him apart isn't just his speed – it's his sportsmanship, respected by competitors and officials alike for his politeness and graciousness, always extending congratulations and gratitude.🌟
As one supporter beautifully expressed in the comment section of Facebook, "Will, you continue to work hard, respect coaches and mentors, along with all your opponents and your club mates," capturing the essence of his character.
The Marcellin Year 10 school camp at Willow Creek Farm, near Encounter Bay, was an enriching experience. Students participated in activities like beachfront bike riding, abseiling, kayaking, raft building, team challenges, and surfing, enhancing their skills and teamwork. Evenings involved cooking outdoors and sharing stories, fostering friendship. The camp offered a mix of adventure and bonding, with students sleeping in tents and enjoying the natural surroundings.
On Wednesday, Marcellin students participated in a series of Encounter Youth Seminars held in the Auditorium. These seminars were designed to address age-specific topics, providing valuable insights and learning experiences for each year level.
The Year 10 students delved into the seminar titled "Who’s Calling Your Shots?" which explored themes of personal responsibility and decision-making. The session aimed to equip students with the skills to make informed choices and understand the impact of their actions in various aspects of life.
Year 11 attendees participated in the "Alert, Not Alarmed" seminar. This session focused on safety and awareness, guiding students on how to stay informed and prepared without feeling overwhelmed by fears or societal pressures. It provided practical advice on navigating safety concerns in both the physical and digital worlds.
The senior students in Year 12 engaged in the "Adulting" seminar. This seminar addressed the challenges and responsibilities of approaching adulthood, covering topics such as financial literacy, independent living, and career planning. It aimed to prepare students for the transition from school to adult life, providing them with the tools to manage the responsibilities that come with growing up.
The Encounter Youth Seminars offered Marcellin students a comprehensive learning experience, tailored to their developmental stages. The seminars not only imparted important life skills but also stimulated thoughtful discussions among students about their roles in society and their personal growth journeys.
In an exciting lead-up to the upcoming Italian Immersion trip, Cardijn College and Mount Carmel College students recently came together for a meet and greet session hosted by Mount Carmel. This event marked a significant step in their preparation for the 18-day journey to Italy, scheduled for November this year!
Congratulations to Scarlett (Year 10 Marian) and Marlee (Year 12 Marian) for their achievements in the recent SA Country Basketball Championships.
Scarlett's team won the Junior Club Championship in the U16 Division 1, taking home the silverware with a 71 - 49 win in the Grand Final!
Scarlett's sister Marlee contributed as the assistant coach for the U14 Division 5 team, her first time coaching a developmental team who were 90% new to basketball! Her role in guiding the team led to their achievement as the runners-up in the Championship, maintaining an impressive undefeated streak up until the Grand Final!
Marlee's ability to motivate and guide team members to achieve their full potential was evident, and played a significant role in the team's outcome.
Scarlett and Marlee have done an incredible job, and we congratulate them on their achievements.

This week I had the opportunity to speak at the Middle School and Senior School assemblies on the Marian Campus.
In doing so, I was able to share some lovely feedback we received recently about a Cardijn student. Here is an excerpt of the feedback below:
'I am a former student and member of the public. I simply wish to pass on what I witnessed this morning on my morning commute by train from Seaford Meadows train station (8:10am). A male student with (short blonde hair) went above and beyond to assist an elderly gentleman in a wheelchair who was using the ramp and was struggling. I’m not sure of who this student was, and do not know their name, but he should be very proud of himself in demonstrating such kindness and sense of social justice. He even almost missed his train in doing so. I hope you are able to identify the student, or at least share this note of gratitude with them. They should be congratulated for exemplifying the School's values and for displaying such kindness. There were so many adults around (myself included) who failed to act so swiftly as he did.'
I shared with students that kindness is a quality which we can all demonstrate. Whilst some students might be great musicians, athletes or excel academically, we all have the ability to be kind. To be kind to each other, and be kind to ourselves. I explained that kindness can be as simple as sharing a smile or holding the door for someone, asking how their day is going, or checking in on someone to let them know you’re thinking of them.
In explaining this, I reflected on the quote from Harold S. Kushner, “Do things for people not because of who they are or what they do in return, but because of who you are.”
I hope that student in the audience knew just how proud we are of them, and how proud we are of all our students when they demonstrate kindness.
