Last week, every student at Galilee planted a tree in the wetlands to celebrate and acknowledge World Environment Day!
World Environment Day began in 1972 and people all over the world participate in both small and large actions to protect and raise awareness of the environment.
A big thanks to Michael and Jason from the Maintenance team, John from Friends of Aldinga Scrub, Andy Coleman and all the family volunteers that joined us.
This year's M.A.D. Night was a spectacular success, marking a significant milestone in Cardijn College's 40-year of dedication to the Arts. Held over two evenings at the Hopgood Theatre, M.A.D. Night showcased the immense talent and creativity of our students in music, art, and drama.
Here are some reflections from our Year 12 Captains who helped host and run the event:
“M.A.D Night was an incredible experience, and I am extremely grateful to have had the opportunity to be a part of it. Being able to present the hard work and dedication of all the Arts students to families and guests was so fulfilling. Both nights were inspiring and highlighted the importance of the Arts and talent at this school.”
- Kyra, Year 12 Art Captain
“Having the opportunity to host the event was an amazing experience, especially alongside my fellow Arts Captains who I have been able to grow closer with throughout the event. The highlight of the experience was being able to see the incredible work of the music, art, and drama students, all of whom have put in so much effort for these nights. The staff across all the Arts departments have also worked remarkably hard to make this event happen, we are all very thankful for them.”
- Rikki, Year 12 Art Captain
“For me, M.A.D. Night has always been a highlight in the Cardijn calendar. Considering it is every 2 years having the opportunity to host and run the event as one of the Music Captains will forever be a fond memory of my final M.A.D. night. The overwhelming support from staff, students, friends, and parents makes all of our efforts worthwhile and being able to become a role model and influence on younger music and arts students is an overwhelmingly incredible feeling. The way each department came together to form such a successful show and how regardless of year levels, houses, or art specific departments everyone came together to celebrate the creativity and excitement of M.A.D. Night.”
- Danielle, Year 12 Music Captain
Thank you to everyone who contributed to M.A.D. Night 2024. Your support and dedication have highlighted the vibrant Arts community at Cardijn College.
Last Friday, Marcellin celebrated a successful Feast Day, honouring St. Marcellin Champagnat, the founder of the Marist Brothers. His commitment to love, learning, and community continues to guide educators and students throughout our community.
Feast Day began with a morning Mass, followed by a variety of engaging activities for the students, including a Work Ready Challenge, Drag Racing, Par 3 Golf, Am I Faster Than You?, Bento Box, Puzzle, Mad Hatter's Tea Party, Jenga, and Light it Up!
The celebration concluded with an awards ceremony, where the following students were recognised:
• Angus for Simplicity
• Brock for Family Spirit
• Ed for Love of Work
• Harry for Presence
• Savannah for In the Way of Mary
Additional awards included:
• Vinnie’s Donation Award – 11 Crew F
• Reliability in Attendance – 11 Crew G
• Perpetual Trophy – Year 12 Crews
We thank the students and staff for making the Feast Day a success.
Chavoin House, whose house patron Jeanne-Marie Chavoin was the founder of the Marist Sisters, celebrated St Marcellin's Feast Day in the most Marist way. Staff and students of Chavoin sat down together at a table honouring Family Spirit. Together, they played board games, sketched pictures, and took the time to be Present with one another. The celebration captured the essence of the Marist Violets, which honour Modesty, Humility, and Simplicity.
Year 7 Marian student Judd has received an incredible and rare invitation to race and train in Spain this July.
Judd will compete as an Australian 'Wildcard Rider' in the MIR Spanish Championship, joining 40 junior competitors from across Europe.
Following the competition, Judd will attend a two-week intensive training academy, where he will train alongside the world's best professional athletes, including world champions.
Congratulations, Judd! This is an incredible opportunity and we wish you the best of luck!
Galilee's first Robotics Club session was a great success, with students building their first robots using Lego Spike Prime kits and tackling problem-solving challenges involving sensor attachment.
Students are perfecting their building and coding skills in preparation for the RoboCup Robotics Competition in August!
Nine Marian Middle School female students participated in the WOMEN in STEM Program at the University of Adelaide. They navigated through interactive challenges designed to enhance their listening skills, teamwork, and problem-solving abilities—essential qualities in STEM careers. These challenges included building hydrogen racecars, cranes, and cantilevers.
Beyond their success in these activities, the students explored various STEM fields, such as robotics and environmental science.
Marian STEM teachers Dr Pranay Sharma and Mrs Strali Vo believe this experience highlights how STEM education cultivates curiosity, encourages exploration, and lays a groundwork for future career paths and personal growth.
Congratulations to our students for their exceptional achievements at the WOMEN in STEM Academy:

Thank you to the University of Adelaide for hosting our students.
Looking for your first part time/casual job? An apprenticeship or traineeship? Perhaps you are planning to make employment your ‘first step’ post-Cardijn. Irrespective, the development of key transferrable skills, known as employability skills, are essential. Network with local employers, know what makes you employable, understand how to apply for positions and where to find work. Key in this area is knowing the diverse range of opportunities that exist in different industries.
Join us for the Year 9-12 Pathways Expo in the Marian Gym on Wednesday 31 July from 2.45 to 5.30pm.
Catholic School Parents SA is hosting a FREE Cybersafe Families engagement evening on 19 June at 6pm at St Martin de Porres Catholic Primary School.
This workshop will be meaningful for teachers, parents, and caregivers; the event will offer both online and in-person attendance options.
On Tuesday, the Reception students from Galilee visited Marian to watch the Year 8 students perform stories inspired by the great author Dr. Seuss. The visit provided an entertaining and enjoyable experience for everyone involved.
The Year 11 and 12 Marian Drama students are performing the play 'Suspect to Change' in Week 9 from 25-27 June at 7pm. Tickets can be purchased from the Marian Campus Front Office ($5) and all proceeds go to the Road Trauma Support Team of SA.
It’s a comedy of errors involving love, friendship, misunderstanding, misplaced pride, and mistaken identity. There's a kidnapping, a jewellery heist, a purse snatching, and a fiancé wannabe who can't get in a word to pop the question.
We can’t wait to see you there!
Year 10 Marian Italian students visited Caffe L’Incontro in Gays Arcade. During the visit, they had the opportunity to taste authentic rich Italian hot chocolate and zeppole while practising their Italian speaking skills with Federico, the waiter, and conversing with other Italian-speaking patrons.
Following their merenda at Caffé L’Incontro, the students walked to the Central Markets. There, they searched for Italian products and visited Italian stalls. Their current task is to write to an Italian pen-friend, sharing information about the wonderful places to visit in Adelaide and where to find the best food.
Visual and Performing Arts Showcase
Congratulations and well done to the students and staff involved in the Cardijn ‘M.A.D’ Evenings at the Hopgood Theatre last week! It was a great opportunity to showcase the many aspects of the Arts at Cardijn, and the students excelled! Of course, this does not just happen by chance so a special thanks to the very talented and generous staff who enable our students to shine! I would also like to express our gratitude for the family support our students receive when it comes to rehearsals, including the early mornings and evenings, so that their students are provided with this opportunity. I think the proud smiles on the faces of all present at the Hopgood Theatre sums it up!
The ‘Arts’ has been a strong feature of Cardijn over the years and I can recall being in the audience as a parent when our children performed at the Hopgood Theatre for a Cardijn Showcase. I have very fond memories of the amazing talent on display back then and the staff who made it all possible. Currently, interviews for 2025 College staffing are underway and part of the process is to ensure that we employ staff who value the 'beyond the classroom' interactions and activities such as the ‘M.A.D’ Night. During the interview process applicants are asked to share where they might become involved beyond the classroom at Cardijn. This special feature at Cardijn needs to continue and is highly valued by our community. I am pleased to share that the most suitable applicants are very supportive of our extensive programs and will further enhance this rich tradition at Cardijn!
