Our recent Marian Campus Art and Music Night was a success, showcasing the diverse talents of our students. The event featured an array of artworks and musical performances, creating a vibrant atmosphere for students, parents, and staff. It was a great opportunity for the Cardijn community to connect, appreciate the Arts, and celebrate our school's creativity.
🤸♀️ PE Week was a blast as our Year 5 and 6 students took charge of a variety of fun lunchtime activities. The week concluded on a high note with 'Feel Good Friday,' featuring a whole school health hustle choreographed by our dedicated student leaders. Well done to these students for using their break times to practice!
👕 Adding to the spirited atmosphere, students wore their favourite sporting team tops, which encouraged friendly banter and cheers throughout the day. Thanks to everyone who made PE Week a success!
On Tuesday 14 November, Marian Campus hosted its first Sports Presentation Night since 2019! The night was a great success bringing together the relative students, families, and staff. The evening marked the end of the 2023 sport seasons and more importantly, allowed us to recognise and congratulate the teams and individual athletes who excelled this year in After School Sport. This year at Cardijn we offered the following; Netball, Basketball, Soccer, Football, and Volleyball. Across each of these sports we had an incredible 36 teams representing the college through terms 1-4. We would like to extend our thanks to the participants, families and coaches who made this possible, we can’t wait to see what 2024 brings.
Nominations are now open for the 2024 season of Marian Campus after-school sport. Please visit https://forms.office.com/r/8Kv40UpQpa to complete the nomination form.
⚽ Our Year 10/11 Soccer Academy class embarked on an exciting excursion to Mt Pleasant Golf & Country Club, where they tested their soccer abilities through a round of FootGolf!
⛳ The day was filled with enthusiasm as students embraced the challenge, showcasing their skills in this unique blend of soccer and golf. The students were very surprised at how challenging this sport is, but had a great time using their skills in a different learning environment.
Last weekend, cadets of 430ACU Cardijn College attended the End of Year Parade at Keswick Barracks. The end-of-year parade for Army Cadets marked a celebration of dedication and excellence. Sergeant Tallan Russell was deservedly honoured as the NCO of the Year, embodying exceptional leadership and commitment. The event echoed with pride and camaraderie, highlighting the remarkable achievements of our dedicated cadets as they finished the year on a high note.
We are delighted to announce that Charlie Gibson has won the Future Physicist Award from the Australian Institute of Physics for demonstrating strong dedication and commitment to his Year 11 Physics studies. Charlie is looking forward to continuing his Physics journey into Year 12 and beyond, where he hopes to study Electrical Engineering at University. Well done Charlie!
In Term 3 in Year 10 Science, Marian students engaged with the Future Anything Activate program, a national pathway for students to think and act like entrepreneurs, as they ideate innovative solutions to problems that face our world today. While Cardijn has successfully featured teams in the National Semi-Finals for the past three years, this was the first time we have had a team go all the way to the Grand Final in Brisbane!
Fletcher and Jack from CogniShield Sportswear attended the Grand Final on Monday as a showcasing team. While they didn’t come away with the win, the feedback from the judges was overwhelmingly positive (one even said they have a billion-dollar idea, so watch this space!).
A huge congratulations to both Fletcher and Jack for all the hard work they put into this project, and to the Year 10 science teachers for supporting all of their students in this exciting journey.
Congratulations to Kolbe House for winning the 2023 House Soccer!
Lombard fought hard with plenty of talented soccer players representing them, however, Kolbe came away with a 2-0 win. Well done to all involved.
Goal Scorers
Noah Etiennette: 1
Noah Farley-Farrant: 1
Congratulations to the following students who competed in the 2023 AusCycling National BMX Championships in Shepparton, Victoria. These students represented their state, local club and in some cases national teams.
Addison Cattonar - 14 Girls
Xavier Hanna - 14 Boys
Brodie Klinkert - 13 Boys
Riley Lawrence - 13 Boys
Our Year 6 students recently enjoyed an immersive excursion to an Indonesian restaurant. Ordering their meals in Indonesian, the students not only practised language skills but also embraced the rich culture during this hands-on cultural experience, fostering language proficiency and cultural awareness beyond the classroom!
The Galilee Year 7 Wetland Warriors have been learning about the importance of water and the global issues that many communities face, all while exploring our Galilee Wetlands.
Students learnt that some communities need to travel up to 2km to find water and carry it back to their community. They participated in a water activity where they carefully carried buckets of water around our school oval.
Last Monday the class were given the challenge to make a cheap three ingredient chocolate mousse. Sound easy? It was!
However, they then had to elevate the standard and presentation of the mousse on the Wednesday lesson so that it could be sold for a high price in a fancy restaurant, with only 5 extra ingredients to work with.
The objective of this task was to look at Food and Hospitality from a business perspective - creating products that are exciting and flavourful, that turn a profit.
They had to take cheap ingredients, make a masterpiece and put a price tag on between $15 and $20.
We think you'll agree, they did an awesome job!
In a commendable display of social citizenship, Year 10 student Kayden Ackerley has successfully raised $850 for his Community Studies project. As part of the project, students were tasked with making a positive community impact through education, fundraising, or sharing a skill.
Kayden chose a physical challenge, committing to run 5km per day for a month. The initiative resulted in an impressive $850, which will go towards supporting a family affected by cancer and in need of financial assistance. Kayden's remarkable efforts showcase not only his dedication but also his exceptional independence in undertaking this impactful project.
Our Marcellin Year 10 students destined for the Cert II in Construction program next year embarked on an insightful civil construction tour, journeying from CITB to the Tonsley Civil Park. They gained firsthand knowledge about various civil trades, enhancing their understanding of this dynamic field.
From the Deputy Principal
It’s often an exciting time of year for students as the school year approaches its conclusion, with the festive season and school holidays on the horizon. There have been many incredible events across the campuses this term to celebrate students’ efforts and achievements, gifts and talents. It’s equally exciting for everyone looking ahead to the beginning of their Cardijn journey, whether that is our new receptions at Galilee, the year 7 students beginning at Marian, or the new year 10 group commencing at Marcellin.
On Monday evening at Marian, the families of over 300 new year 7 students gathered in the gymnasium for the Parent Information Night to learn about ‘all things Cardijn’ and although the staff did a wonderful job, it was our current students who stole the show by sharing their Cardijn journey so far, as they finish their first year at secondary school. The new reception students have been visiting Galilee for transition visits throughout this year before starting school in 2024, and the new year 10s at Marcellin have their information night next week on Wednesday.
We wish all these students and families well as they begin their Cardijn journey and we are so excited to welcome them into the Cardijn community.
