Enjoy this selection of photos from last week's Athon Day event at Marian Campus. The students enjoyed the activities and talents on display during the concert, including a surprise staff flash mob performance! An announcement of the official funds raised to follow next week!
Marian Year 9s and 10s participated in an educational seminar from Independent Drug Education Australia. Led by founder Tom Reynolds, students learnt about proactive and responsive strategies that can be used to protect themselves and their friends in all alcohol and drug-related situations.
This term we have introduced the "Elevate Your Game" program which is specifically designed for students seeking to enhance their performance in their chosen sport. This comprehensive athletic development program focuses on elevating athletes' speed, strength, and power to new heights.
Sessions are held every Wednesday morning from 7.45am in the Marian Campus weight room, and aim to equip students with the knowledge and tools necessary to optimise their physical abilities and excel in their respective sports.
Well done to these students who have made some strong progress across the first half of Term 2. We welcome all students to attend these sessions, no registrations are required.
Galilee Stage 2 Magic Harvesters celebrated Monday's World Environment Day and the theme Solutions to Plastic Pollution, by harvesting lettuces from their salad plot and making their own salad wraps. This activity promotes homegrown produce straight from the soil rather than purchasing store-bought veggies wrapped in plastic or transported in plastic bags.
🍏 Flinders University Nutrition and Dietetics students Brock and Lamisha, recently visited our Year 7 Healthy Lifestyles class.
🥤 They discussed the impact of processed sugar on our health and asked students to estimate the amount of sugar in some popular drinks. Year 7s learnt how to read the labels on products to determine the sugar content. The results were eye-opening for many!
🤖 Robotics Club kicked off their first meeting for the term in the new Middle School building!
🏀 Student-athletes and parents are invited to the Athletes Dream Q&A session aimed at providing insight into the process of attaining a sports scholarship in the US and Canadian college system.
🏉 Founding Director Chris Shee, will lead a Q&A session aimed at providing information about the academic and athletic requirements for academic acceptance and receiving sport scholarship offers from college coaching staff.
🥇 They will share information on the role their recruitment agency plays in assisting student-athletes and their families to take the best college opportunities available during a recruitment campaign.

Music Centre, Cardijn College Marian Campus
Marcellin teaching and training staff recently undertook a PD session learning a unique approach to supporting students through individual challenges.
Facilitated by teacher Damian Fenoughty, the technique uses staff collaborative conversation to provide suggestions and solutions to an issue being faced. Teachers and trainers really enjoyed this newly learned technique and look forward to putting it into practice.
We are looking forward to welcoming the Cardijn community to the Careers and Pathways Expo on Wednesday 21 June from 2.30 - 5.00pm in the Marian Campus Gym. A variety of different industries will be represented, with presentations from some major organisations.
Over the coming weeks we will highlight some of the key presenters we will be hosting at the expo.
Be sure to check out TAFE SA’s state-of-the-art welding simulators. The virtual reality helmets, support new apprentices embarking on a career in fabrication and current welders, seeking to refresh and refine their skills.
TAFE SA is South Australia’s largest vocational education and training provider, delivering job-focused training across a range of industries from entry-level certificates to bachelor degrees, at locations across the state
Year 11 Cert II Construction students at Marcellin have spent the last few weeks producing a pergola and bench for students at Galilee Campus. These items will fit right in with Galilee's timber playground amongst the trees and greenery.
Pelvic Pain Association of Australia, spoke with a group of our Year 10s delivering their educational seminar the Periods, Pain and Endometriosis Program (PPEP Talk).
PPEP Talk is the largest pain education program for students in Australia. It plays a critical role in informing and educating students to recognise and identify whether their pain is normal, how all the different symptoms fit together, simple ways to reduce their pain, and how to look for further help if pain is severe. This allows students to fulfil their true potential, without the burden of pain.
"On Tuesday, 6 June, Year 12 leaders Izzy, Hannah, Alex and Aden attended the Student Summit on Violence Prevention and Responses in Schools. Throughout the day, we brainstormed ideas and solutions with a range of independent and government schools related to how we can increase the safety of students. Additionally, we lead a focus on support systems within our school community and then presented these recommendations to the Minister of Education - Blair Boyer. It was a great sunny day at the Zoo and we thoroughly enjoyed having our voices heard on these important issues."

🏆 Congratulations to Tenison Woods College Mount Gambier for taking out the 2023 Cardijn/Tenison Exchange.
🏀 Well done to all students involved, giving it their all right from the start. Thank you to the Cardijn and Tenison staff who coordinated the three-day event. Photos to follow.
Marcellin Year 10s were blessed with perfect weather this week for their hike along the Onkaparinga River, starting from the township in Old Noarlunga. The 3.5km circuit included a trek across the impressive pedestrian footbridge over the river.

From the Principal
Being new to the College means that each major event across Cardijn is a learning experience and an insight to the Cardijn culture. ‘Athon’Day at Marian is a much hyped event – and so it should be! The Class of 2023 led from the front and their traditional dance performance was spectacular; as were all of the performances in the concert after lunch. Significant funds were raised and fun had undertaking a range of activities which supported numerous charitable causes as chosen by each house. It truly was a poignant example of seeing a need; deciding what can be done to assist and doing something about it; as well as having some fun along the way. It certainly was a testament to the Cardijn motto of: See, Judge, Act!
This week was also the feast of St Marcellin Champagnat and how apt that we had the Tenison Woods College (TWC) exchange. Both schools have Marist links to their heritage and the ‘Family Spirit’ on display was palpable! Despite TWC’s overall victory, the experience enhanced the relationships within and across the Colleges and we look forward to reclaiming the shield when we venture to ‘The Mount’ in 2024!
Enjoy the long weekend!
