Earlier this week, Galilee Year 9 students had the opportunity to support Year 1 students to complete their Classroom Pulse Check In Survey. The purpose of the Classroom Pulse Check In is to find out how students are feeling about their experience of school.
Students are asked simple questions relating to identity, learning, relationships and belonging.
Our Year 9s demonstrated fantastic leadership and mentoring skills while working with the younger students to complete this task.
Last Friday Galilee held the first Student Executive meeting for 2023. Student Executive is a regular forum involving student voice. Each home group is asked to hold a home group meeting before Student Executive to discuss any concerns, celebrations or ideas and then select two representatives to attend the Student Executive meeting to share items which relate to the whole community.
Students attending Executive meetings can change each meeting - a home group might select individuals who are keen or passionate about a certain topic to present.
This week the group reflected on what has gone well with the start of the year and also the identity and culture of Galilee Campus in preparation for choosing our building names.
The students shared that they often witness children being kind to one another, sharing play areas well, cubby play was a highlight and they were impressed to have observed less rubbish in the yard. This Friday at Galilee Gathers, Bethany and Indigo from Year 4 will present the main points of their discussion to the rest of the community.
This Friday a group of Cardijn students will be attending the International Women's Day Breakfast hosted by Senator the Hon Penny Wong at the Adelaide Convention Centre. Attendees will hear from this year's guest speaker Ambassador Caroline Kennedy, U.S. Ambassador to Australia. The breakfast is the largest event celebrating IWD in Australia.
Students will also participate in a range of activities at lunch time to mark the occasion and reflect on the women who inspire them and the social, economic, cultural and political achievements of women around the world.
♻️ Teams of students worked together to help keep our beautiful grounds clean by participating in Clean Up Australia Day at Marian and Galilee! Discussions were held about the plastics that we use in our everyday lives and what steps we could take to reduce this. Ideas discussed included using washable containers with lids and paper bags instead of plastic.
🔋 Marcellin Campus would like to extend a huge thank you to Voltex Electrical for generously donating various accessories and equipment to our Electrotechnology suite. These supplies will go towards training the next generation of electricians!
"On Thursday, February 23, the Year 11 and 12s had the privilege of hearing from the inspirational Glen Gerreyn. His seminar was rightfully called ‘Day of Hope’ and left the senior students in awe of Glen himself and his story, but also with a new spark and drive to look to the future and dream big. Glen captivated us through every second of his presentation and gave us tools and taught lessons that the students will carry with them long after they leave Cardijn. Glen challenged us to ask ourselves “Who am I?” and “Why am I here?” and “Where am I going?”. Glen himself is a prime example of what dreaming big can do and with drive and passion, the seed of greatness that is in every one of us will flourish. We can’t thank Glen enough and we know that this is just the beginning of his lasting impact on us as we continue in these important final years of schooling".
Issabell Pham and Charron Clement Arunsingh, Year 12
Our Middle School student leaders recently gathered for a day of team-building and reflection on what type of leaders they want to be. The day included some beach activities as well as listening to our 2023 College and Mission Captains share what leadership means to them.
Marian Campus was grateful to receive visits from two stars of the sporting field.
Adelaide Thunderbirds player Matilda Garrett made a guest appearance at our netball trials for the SA Catholic Secondary School Netball competition held in Terms 2 and 3. Matilda assisted in the selection process for our extra-curricular teams and provided valuable feedback and advice. The girls loved having her out!
This week we hosted ex-Galatasaray and Adelaide United player, Marcelo Carrusca who ran sessions with our Year 9, 10 and 11 Soccer Academy Classes. Marcelo used his experience and expert knowledge of the game to provide our students with some fun and engaging skill-focused drills.
On Tuesday 28 February, Cardijn sent a small group of extremely dedicated and talented swimmers to compete at the Catholic Co-Ed Swimming Carnival held at the Adelaide Aquatic Centre. Despite the late evening event and distance from home, all swimmers brought with them an outstanding attitude and competitive spirit. This was shown by the fact that we placed 1st, 2nd or 3rd in over 60% of our total events despite having one of the smaller teams in attendance.
A special thank you to all parents and family members in the crowd supporting our swimmers and all Cardijn staff members who volunteered their time to transport, supervise or officiate on the evening. However the biggest thanks goes to our team of swimmers that represented the college so well.
We are excited to invite you to explore what makes Cardijn College Galilee Campus middle school a special place by joining us for an information session for parents/carers of students in Years 3-6. Explore the new building, hear from current middle school students and take the opportunity to ask any questions you may have. Please download the invitation for more details.
The Commission is hosting a forum for Parents and Carers with the intent of strengthening the partnership between the Commission, Catholic Schools and Parent and Carer communities.
The forum is an opportunity for the Commission to provide an update on the Strategic Direction of Catholic Education, and importantly, hear feedback from Parents and Carers.

From the Deputy Principal
This week marks a significant point of reflection as we celebrate International Women’s Day. The statistics regarding gender inequality are staggering and there is still so much to be done as we strive for a world where:
- everyone is treated as equals
- we live free of bias, stereotypes and discrimination.
The Global Gender Gap Report from the World Economic Forum GLO last year stated that gender parity may not be achieved for a further 132 years showing that we still have work to do.
At Cardijn, we are privileged to have exceptional young leaders who are working to make a difference in their world, beginning with their local school community. These young people are people of integrity who see a need and take action. They display empathy, compassion and a willingness to lead by example.
Joseph Cardijn famously said, “You don’t find leaders, you form them” and the students of Cardijn are leaders of the future.. and what a difference they will make!
