Reconciliation Week kicked off at Marian Campus with a traditional smoking ceremony and dance performance. We welcomed special guests from our First Nations community including Uncle Moogy, to perform the Welcome to Country and Smoking Ceremony, Joe Hayes played the didgeridoo (yidiki), while Major and Leanna Sumner taught students some traditional dance routines that were performed in front of the school.
After an idea from some of our First Nations students and friends, students gathered in the Sheoak forest to hear how many of the First Nations people would tell their story using symbols. Students then told their own story using symbols.
Violet – ‘My symbol is of a meeting place. I was there with my Mum, Dad and brother and all our friends. We met in the desert. It was bone dry.’
Galilee students in Mrs McLaren’s homegroup read the story ‘Sorry Day’ written by Coral Vass and Dub Leffler as part of their learning during Reconciliation Week.
The students imagined they were one of the First Nations children from the story and used their senses to brainstorm what they would have felt, heard and seen. Meg, Alexa and Tessa were eager to share their stories and used engaging, descriptive language to write their story.
Students at Marcellin experienced a traditional basket weaving workshop as part of Reconciliation Week activities. Students were taught the ancient technique by First Nations women to create the baskets traditionally used for fishing, gathering and storing food, and carrying water.
Athon Day is this Friday! The excitement is building, our House charity donations are increasing and our performers are busy rehearsing their concert acts.
It's not too late to donate! Visit the QKR app to give to your House charity.

Our recent Year 11 Reflection Day for Marcellin Campus was held at Serafino Winery. It was a wonderful experience that allowed our students to explore our Catholic identity and embrace the essence of our Marist charism. With a keen focus on the Marist Theme: Created + Called, our students had the chance to broaden their understanding of its meaning and relevance. Throughout the day, our students exhibited remarkable openness, vulnerability, and an eagerness to learn about their peers and themselves.
Engaging in a series of energetic activities, they discovered new perspectives, fostered connections, and embraced personal growth. It was a truly wonderful day of exploration, self-reflection, and shared experiences.
This week Year 11 Marian Campus students participated in the inaugural Inspired Live event. We were fortunate to host 11 Cardijn old scholars who returned to their alma mater to share their career journeys, lessons and experiences with our students.
The feedback from this experience has been overwhelmingly positive.
"I learnt a lot about my future career pathways." - Beckham
"It was inspiring to see what opportunities can come from the Cardijn community." - Austyn
"Luke helped the Year 11 students to understand that inspiration isn't the same as passion and we should all aspire to great things in our future." - Ella
"I learnt that it's OK to fail and you just need to keep your mind open and try new things." - Isabel
Students from the Marist Centre made fresh pasta in their Italian lesson.
They used la chitarra to make the pasta shape. The students were very proud of their achievements and found using la chitarra ‘very satisfying’.
As the crisp winter air settles in, signalling the arrival of a new season, our Cardijn Student Athletes eagerly lace up their boots and prepare for the much-anticipated winter sports season. With a diverse range of athletic competitions on offer, including Australian rules football, soccer, basketball, netball, and various knockout tournaments, the stage is set for an exhilarating and action-packed sporting extravaganza.
With over 500 student athletes representing the College in our weekly competitions and many more participating in the much anticipated State-wide School Knockout Competition it has been a whirlwind of a start. In just the first few rounds of the season Cardijn College has already experienced all the highs and lows that come with the fierce inter school competitions.
Cardijn kicked the season off by taking over 100 of our Open A athletes across our 4 academy sports to St Michael’s College for a pre season hit out. This event has been seen as a tremendous success with both schools looking to continue this initiative in the future.
In addition to the regular winter sports fixtures, the season is further enlivened by various knockout competitions. These high-stakes tournaments test the mettle of athletes across different sports, bringing an extra layer of excitement and unpredictability to the season. Participants showcase their skill, resilience, and adaptability, making every knockout event a captivating affair that keeps spectators guessing until the final whistle.
With all this excitement however, Cardijn is now switching its attention to the much-anticipated Tenison Woods Exchange. After travelling in 2022, Cardijn is all set to host the wonderful competition in 2023. The event will see the 2 proud colleges battle out across 11 disciplines starting with the extremely tense debate on Sunday evening. After experiencing a few changes to the event over the “pandemic years” the Exchange still generate as much excitement as it did almost 40 years ago!
Stay tuned for more Cardijn Sports updates throughout the Winter Season!
We are looking forward to welcoming the Cardijn community to the Careers and Pathways Expo on Wednesday 21 June from 2.30 - 5.00pm in the Marian Campus Gym. A variety of different industries will be represented, with presentations from some major organisations.
Over the coming weeks we will highlight some of the key presenters we will be hosting at the expo.
AHH Life Skills provide disability support as NDIS providers in Adelaide. We offer a vast range of community and home support including excursions, housing, day options and mentoring.
Last week Marian Campus hosted Woodcroft College for Open Girls Knockout Football. It was fantastic to see so many students come out and support the girls at recess time.
The final score was Cardijn 12.7 - 79 | Woodcroft 1.4 - 10
The girls were brilliant on the day. Woodcroft won the state final last year so to win by such a large margin in the first round is a testament to the squad's determination. Woodcroft coaches commented on the team's skills, speed, and versatility.
Standout players: Zoe F, Eden C, Kahlani H, Charlotte W.

From the Deputy Principal
It has been a significant week across the College as we honoured our ongoing commitment to reconciliation and acknowledgment of First Nations people, culture and history.
As recounted above, our community was involved in a number of Reconciliation Week activities including basket weaving, sharing stories through symbols, traditional dance and a meaningful smoking ceremony which brought the whole of Marian Campus together in a show of respect and solidarity.
The Family Spirit that makes these occasions so memorable will be on full display tomorrow at the Marian Campus Athon Day. Our Houses have worked incredibly hard to raise much-needed funds for their chosen charities and it promises to be a rich and colourful day to celebrate the acts of mission and service that Cardijn is so proud to embrace.
We also look forward to welcoming students from Tenison College in Mount Gambier to Cardijn for the 35th annual Cardijn-Tenison exchange running from Sunday to Tuesday. Keep an eye on our social media for updates and good luck to all involved. Go Cardijn!
