🥬 How is your garden growing this season?
Our Magic Harvest plots have been flourishing, leaving students with the opportunity to taste test a variety of lettuces and observe garlic that has germinated among kale that is now as tall as our knees!
Later in the term, we will enjoy a stir-fry celebration from our stir-fry garden plot. Delicious!
Congratulations to our amazing Galilee Aerobics team who are through to the next round of the school competition. The team performed their routine at an assembly in front of classmates and parents.
Athon Day is next week! An exciting and significant event held annually on our Marian Campus, Athon Day is a day when we recognise the importance of mission, service and justice through our support of worthwhile causes and charities.
Please download the letter with more details about Athon Day, including how to contribute to the worthy House charities via the QKR app.
Marian Campus students were treated to a surprise visit by Senior Constables Croser and Bowen and police horses Humphrey and Grange. The visit was part of SAPOL's commitment to positive community engagement and the excitement of this unique encounter was evident amongst the students.
We are looking forward to welcoming the Cardijn community to the Careers and Pathways Expo on Wednesday 21 June from 2.30 - 5.00pm in the Marian Campus Gym. A variety of different industries will be represented, with presentations from some major organisations.
Over the coming weeks we will highlight some of the key presenters we will be hosting at the expo.
The South Australian Metropolitan Fire Service (MFS) is responsible for protecting the community from the effects of fires, road crashes, dangerous substances and other emergencies. Our role includes prevention and education, preparedness, and response and recovery activities. MFS headquarters is based in Adelaide, with 20 metropolitan stations and 17 stations located in larger regional centres of South Australia.
☕ MarValla Cafe will be operating at the Careers and Pathways Expo at Marian Campus on Wednesday 21 June.
🐮 Working in welcome partnership with Expo guests, Fleurieu Milk Company, your hot drink needs will be catered for by the finest baristas at Marian Campus, for just a gold coin donation.
Visit the Fleurieu Milk stall to discover the diverse range of careers that exist at Fleurieu Milk, a locally-owned company with a strong commitment to excellence, service and leadership.
The Marist Netball team is travelling to Perth to compete in the Marist Netball Carnival. To ease the financial burden, they are holding a fundraising quiz night on Friday 26 May at 6.00pm to raise much-needed funds. Tickets can be purchased online: https://www.eventbrite.com/e/marist-netball-quiz-night-tickets-633119947807
Tables of 10 are discounted so get your friends together for a fun night! Individual tickets also available. BYO drinks and nibbles!
Congratulations to our Galilee students who performed at Indofest over the weekend alongside students from St John the Apostle Parish School and Emmaus Catholic Primary School. The students performed six Indonesian songs, with many dignitaries from South Australia and Indonesia in attendance.
Marcellin Campus recently welcomed two new staff members to the team supporting students with their wellbeing and future pathways.
Matt Williams has commenced the role of full-time School Counsellor and brings a wealth of experience, most recently as a social worker at SA Health within the Southern Youth Mental Health Service. On the weekends you’ll find Matt coaching his son’s soccer games, running his local parkrun, sipping coffee, and embracing outdoor activities. Matt looks forward to creating an inclusive and supportive environment for our students to feel heard and to develop key capabilities to succeed well into their future beyond their schooling years.
Andy Parkes joins Marcellin as the Industry Engagement and Employment Field Officer with experience recruiting and managing school based apprentices for the MTA (automotive industry) previously. Andy is excited to be helping students discover their perfect career. A fun fact about Andy - he is from Birmingham in the UK, where the show Peaky Blinders is set.
Congratulations to Marian Campus old scholar Cameron Kirkland (’22) who made his league debut for South Adelaide Football Club playing against Port Adelaide. Ironically, on the opposition side for Cameron’s debut was good mate and fellow Cardijn Football Academy old scholar Kyle Marshall (’22) who was drafted to Port Adelaide Football Club in the 2022 NAB AFL draft.
Both were successful athletes in the Football Academy at Cardijn College where they played many games together in the after-school competition. Cameron kicked a goal in his debut game and the Cardijn community couldn’t be prouder to see two old scholars continuing their football journeys at an elite level.
Congratulations to Galilee students Austin (Year 6) and Max (Year 5) on being selected for the Year 5/6 Southern Districts Football SAPSASA team.
Mission Australia will be at Cardijn College providing information on understanding the NDIS and eligibility for accessing support.

Cardijn College Principal Steve Byrne, invites Galilee families to attend the Town Hall Meeting Tuesday 30 May at 6pm in the Middle School Library. We'll be discussing:
- Galilee Campus leadership

- Uniform

Students can visit the shop during opening hours, with or without a parent/carer and either purchase items or leave at the Front Office for payment by a parent/carer.
The shop gratefully accepts uniform donations or items left on consignment until sold. Uniform items must be in good condition, washed and pressed prior to leaving at the shop.
Galilee families also have access to a second-hand uniform shop on campus.

Fridays 2.30 - 3pm
From the Principal
On Wednesday evening the College Board met at Marcellin as it was an opportunity to view the progress of the Automotive and Metal Engineering capital project. It is a $6M rebuild of the Automotive and Metal Engineering workshops. This facility will provide great opportunities and training spaces for our Marcellin students to pursue employment in these fields.
There is also a process underway to establish a 6-court complex on the Marian oval as we utilise the current courts to establish eight transportable classrooms to cater for the significant enrolment growth. This will be undertaken in Semester 2.
A great deal of maintenance and ‘tidy up’ work has been undertaken at Galilee following the completion of the $6M Middle School building earlier this year. This will be ongoing.
Masterplanning of the Marian and Galilee campuses is also in the pipeline!
The College Board has a significant role to play in advising the College Executive, especially the Principal. Capital works are just an example of the key priorities discussed at meetings. Other areas include: child safeguarding, strategic planning, senior leadership appointments, critical incidents, finance, enrolments, policies and so on. This list is directly from Wednesday’s meeting. We are seeking new Board members and will be commencing a process later this term. If you wish to discuss Board membership please feel free to contact me at the College.
Finally, ‘Town Hall’ type meetings provide an opportunity to focus on prevailing key issues with some input from the College Leadership and a ‘Q&A’ format to follow. Next Tuesday, the second gathering of the Galilee parents and carers will be held to focus on the appointment of the next Head of Galilee, proposed building names and a discussion in regard to the Galilee uniform. All are welcome!
Best wishes,
Steve Byrne
Principal
