Lombard takes home the big win at the 2024 Cardijn College Sports Day, reclaiming the championship for the first time since 1998!

Congratulations to Lombard House for their outstanding determination and teamwork this past Friday. 

A special mention to Faulkner House who won the Spirit Trophy, showcasing great enthusiasm and team spirit.

It was fantastic to welcome Team Galmar, comprised of Galilee and Marcellin students, who joined in the fun of Sports Day.

We thank our incredible staff and students for making yet another Sports Day a roaring success! Your dedication and sportsmanship truly shine through.

Recently we honoured the top-achieving students from the Class of 2023 at our Laureate Assembly.

A special congratulations to College Dux Lachlan Schuetze, who achieved an exceptional ATAR of 99.35, A+ merits in both Biology and Chemistry, and straight As in Specialist Mathematics, Physics, English Literary Studies, and Integrated Learning.

Additionally, we recognise our Proxime Accessit, Majd Karem who achieved an outstanding ATAR of 98.30 and straight As in the Research Project, Physics, Mathematical Methods, Chemistry, Biology, and Integrated Learning.

We were thrilled to welcome special guest speaker Sophie Meynell, who was College Captain and Joseph Cardijn Award recipient for 2019. Sophie shared some inspiring insights and wisdom with our new graduates and the audience of senior school students and special guests.

The adventure kicked off for our Year 7 Galilee students at Wirraway Homestead, marking what has been an unforgettable school camp. Despite the heat, they’ve immersed themselves in team-building activities and outdoor adventures. Their enthusiasm and joy have shined through! They are making wonderful new friends and have challenged themselves to reach beyond their comfort zones. This week has truly been filled with laughter, learning, and lasting memories.

We're thrilled to kick off the new year with some delicious-looking updates from our Food and Hospitality program! Our students have been hard at work, putting their culinary skills to the test.

In a unique and exciting twist, students were paired up and tasked with designing, planning, and preparing gourmet dishes fit for a restaurant specials board. But here's the catch - they had to do so while navigating the challenge of fluctuating ingredient prices.

To add an element of surprise and creativity, students participated in a thrilling 'food lottery' where they randomly selected one protein, one staple, and two vegetables. Think of it as a raffle-style selection process where the ingredients became the building blocks of their culinary creations.

Armed with only these ingredients and access to restaurant pantry staples like spices, seasonings, herbs, flours, and fats, our budding chefs were allowed just two additional items from a shopping list to craft their mouthwatering "special".

This task wasn't just about cooking up delicious dishes; it was a lesson in resourcefulness and waste management. By challenging our students to get inventive with the ingredients at hand, they learned invaluable skills that extend far beyond the kitchen.

After participating in last week's Ash Wednesday Mass, our students engaged in a hands-on lesson on propagating native trees found on our school grounds. They were guided through the delicate process of trimming the plants using precise techniques to ensure their health and vitality. Learning the art of pruning, they carefully removed excess leaves to minimise stress on the plants. They potted the cuttings into propagation tubes, where they will develop roots and flourish into robust plants.

At Galilee, every home group takes part in seed-planting activities, fostering a deeper understanding of the symbolism of growth during Lent and forging meaningful connections between planting seeds and spiritual growth.

Did you know that there are over 30 different clubs and extra-curricular activities on offer at the  Marian Campus? From Art Club to Technology and Chess Club to Rock Band Club. There's something tailored for every interest and passion!

This week we held our annual Extra Expo – an opportunity to showcase all the extracurricular activities available to our students. All Year 7s were given some lesson time to be a part of this showcase, while all other year levels had the chance to stop by during recess.

A heartfelt thank you extends to our dedicated Year 11 and Year 12 leaders for their invaluable contributions in orchestrating this memorable day.

Galilee Year 8s thoroughly enjoyed their Tjilbruke excursion to Kingston Park Coastal Reserve! Students had the opportunity to witness the Tjilbruke monument and explore the sacred site of the Freshwater Spring.

The Tjilbruke Spring site holds profound cultural and spiritual significance for the Kaurna people and the broader Aboriginal community. The Kingston Park cliff face stands as a natural sanctuary, home to a diverse array of native wildlife. Amidst its rugged beauty thrive over 76 varieties of native plants, each contributing to the rich tapestry of life within this precious ecosystem!

Jeremy Gramp from Green Adelaide joined us to help our group delve deeper into the environmental aspects of the reserve. Together, we explored the Freshwater Spring, a vital source of sustenance and life within the ecosystem. With Jeremy's guidance, the students collected samples of water from the spring, curious to understand its composition and impact.

Upon testing the water, we were met with a surprising revelation – despite its name, the Freshwater Spring has a remarkably high level of salt. This unexpected discovery sparked discussions among the students, prompting questions about the ecological dynamics at play and the factors influencing the water's salt.

It was a valuable lesson in environmental science and highlighted the importance of hands-on exploration in learning.

On Wednesday afternoon, the Marian Campus YCS team conducted their termly Review of Life (ROL) Night. Whereby we embrace Joseph Cardijn’s 'See, Judge, and Act' methodology to empower students in examining social justice issues relevant to their lives and the realities of young people.

This entirely student-run evening allowed our students to dive deep into their chosen issues of homelessness and burnout. Moving forward, the students are planning various actions to address these issues within our school and local community. We can’t wait to see what happens in the following couple of weeks.
