Congratulations to all students for their incredible efforts, skills and determination at our annual Sports Day held at SA Athletics Stadium last Friday.
Kolbe House took home the Brother Walter Perpetual Trophy for the best performing house on the day, breaking a 31 year drought! Lombard House was awarded the Spirit Trophy.
🌲 Our Year 7s have had such an enriching time at camp strengthening relationships and participating in all the activities Wirraway Homestead had to offer!
‘Camp has been so much fun. My favourite thing so far was horse riding. I rode Neo, which is close to my name!’ - Cleo
‘My favourite thing on camp was horse riding. The sheep herding was fun, we had to get the sheep into the pen and Luke the sheep was so stubborn and wouldn’t move!’ - Lucy
‘On camp horse riding was fun because I have never ridden one before. I have really enjoyed free-time playing ping-pong and volleyball with my friends’ - Daniel
‘My favourite thing was everything. I especially loved horse riding and whip cracking’ - Darcie
🥞 We celebrated Shrove Tuesday this week, a special event on the liturgical calendar that leads us into Lent. We thank our student leaders, middle school students and parents who facilitated the morning at each of our campuses. Our pancakes were topped with our favourite spreads and went down a treat!
We also recognised Ash Wednesday, the first day of Lent, with the symbolic marking of ash crosses on the forehead or on the hand during liturgies across our campuses.
Galilee Campus parents/caregivers are invited to attend our parent engagement evening and hear from Executive Officer, Trish Jarvis of Catholic School Parents South Australia on how we can achieve a positive partnership between parents and school – and why!
The evening will also provide a great opportunity to meet new Cardijn College Principal Mr Steve Byrne and view our newly-opened Middle School Building.

During Week 7 of this term, Australian students in Years 3, 5, 7 and 9 will undertake NAPLAN (National Assessment Program - Literacy and Numeracy) which measures the fundamental literacy and numeracy skills of students in these year levels and can provide insights into their development and growth in these areas.
In Australia we have a sophisticated tool which provides a well-researched and internationally recognised approach to compare schools that goes beyond the immediate local area.
While making these comparisons is important, it is equally important to look beyond these scores to make our own assessment of the quality of teaching, learning and pastoral care offered by each school. NAPLAN scores do not add up to create the whole story of a school community.
Students are not expected to study for NAPLAN. You can support your child by reassuring them that NAPLAN is a part of their school program and reminding them to simply do their best. More information will be communicated to families about the upcoming NAPLAN assessments in the coming weeks.
Thank you to our families who joined us for the Year 12 Information Evening last week. We were fortunate to welcome Brett Burton from Aleda Collective who shared some strategies and techniques on supporting students to build habits for success as they complete this very important time in their educational journey.
As part of their Immersion Program, Marcellin students put their trade theory skills into practice to create break time activities for students in the courtyard. Students engaged in practical skills including levelling, the use of a string line to ensure a project is square and marking out exercises in preparation for repainting the handball and basketball courts. Skills Practical students developed their hair and makeup skills in our onsite training salon.
The College operates second-hand uniform shops located at Marian Campus and Galilee Campus which offer affordable, quality second-hand uniforms to families. Both are open during the school terms at the following times:

We are seeking expressions of interest from our current College parents and Old Scholars to consider joining our Board.
The Cardijn College Board acts in an advisory capacity to the College leadership in its school management role on behalf of the Archdiocese of Adelaide under the direction of Catholic Education SA.
The Board meets seven times a year, usually on a Wednesday evening. There are subcommittees that meet regularly and that meet occasionally.
Expressions of Interest should be sent to:
The Chair of the Cardijn College Board c/- Mrs Anita Patton, Executive Assistant
anita.patton@cardijn.catholic.edu.au
Your Expression of Interest should inform us about what you can bring to the Cardijn College Board and why you would like to be considered as a member.
Thank you for your consideration.
From the Deputy Principal
This past week has highlighted the importance of the extra-curricular activities that make Cardijn the remarkable place that it is. A particular highlight was our College Sports Day last Friday and the introduction of the House of Galmar (a House comprised of students from the Galilee and Marcellin Campuses) as well as seeing Kolbe win their first Sports Day since 1992!! It was also wonderful to see Sport return for the summer season. It is always pleasing to watch the way in which students represent their school with pride and the camaraderie they display amongst their peers.
It has also been fantastic to see our parents so engaged in our school community. As you will see in the articles above, there have been several events across our College where parents have had the opportunity to be present and involved. It cannot be overstated how crucial this partnership is in the holistic development of your son or daughter.
Currently a key focus across the College is on the learning environment and our imperative that teachers have the right to teach and students have the right to learn. We are committed to ensuring the learning environment allows for effective teaching and learning to take place so that every young person can fulfil their potential.. and their potential is incredible!
