Galilee students will join together with students from Emmaus Catholic School and St John the Apostle Parish School this Sunday (21/5) to perform at Indofest-Adelaide!
Entry is free, for more information visit | playandgo.com.au/indofest-adelaide-free-family-fun-day/.
Friday 2 June is Athon Day, an exciting and significant event held annually on our Marian Campus. Athon Day is an event where we recognise the importance of mission, service and justice through our support of worthwhile causes and charities.
Please download the letter with more details about Athon Day, including how to contribute to the worthy House charities via the QKR app.
Catholic Education Week is an annual opportunity for Catholic schools to celebrate the excellent teaching and learning that happens every day and reflect on what makes their school so special.
In 2023, the week has a particular focus on highlighting the individual things that each community loves about their school.
At Cardijn, we welcomed almost 100 prospective families to tour our campuses to discover what makes the Cardijn community so special and why we love our Catholic school.
Our Marian and Galilee Year 7 students attended a special performance by Brainstorm Productions this week, following the journey of two students who are struggling to manage their mental health, relationships and online experiences. When their worlds collide, the audience must help them find a different path.
Wired is an interactive theatre experience that tackles some of the big issues affecting Australian students, including social isolation, anxiety, stress, depression, (cyber)bullying, school stressors and pressure from social media. It encourages help-seeking and provides strategies for resilience, problem-solving, goal-setting and positive mental health.
🧑💻 It's National Careers Week! An event that celebrates careers, career development and career development services.
In order to give our students the best possible career prospects, Cardijn College provides students with a range of career resources including career counselling, transition pathways counselling, support with the Personal Learning Plan, work placement opportunities and vocational education and training course selection support.

🐨 Year 11 student James had the opportunity to spend time at Gorge Wildlife Park in Cuddlee Creek. He was responsible for organising food donations from the supermarkets, cleaning cages and feeding the animals.
‘Overall, my standout was feeding the baby meerkat. It was a few months old and was a really special moment. I am very appreciative of the opportunity the team at Gorge provided me with. I can see myself very happily doing this sort of work in the future.’
⚙️ Grace spent her work experience unit with Llordan Diesel. She operated hoists and brake lathes becoming proficient in using socket sets, spanners, and impact drills. Here’s what she had to say:
‘Witnessing the inner workings of a real trade business provided me with a practical understanding of the industry. I learnt how to efficiently operate within a workshop setting, mastering the proper use of tools and even performing tasks like replacing fuel pressure sensors and pressure sensors. This experience at Llordan Diesel offered me a realistic perspective and solidified my passion for pursuing a career in this trade.’
🖍️ Madie was working with Cool Frogs Early Childhood Education Centre participating in tasks that would be involved in the role of an early childhood educator
'My favourite moment of the week was making the playdough with the pre toddler children and seeing all their facial expressions while making it and the end result and watching their imagination come out while playing with the playdough.'
We are looking forward to welcoming the Cardijn community to the Careers and Pathways Expo on Wednesday 21 June from 2.30 - 5.00pm in the Marian Campus Gym. A variety of different industries will be represented, with presentations from some major organisations.
Over the coming weeks we will highlight some of the key presenters we will be hosting at the expo.
The Academy of Interactive Entertainment (AIE) is Australia's most awarded 3D animation, game design and visual FX educator. AIE courses are practical, career-focused and delivered by industry experienced teachers in a seriously fun and creatively-demanding studio environment.
🕺 This week, Galilee staff and students farewelled Head of Campus Mr Nick Wright with a flash mob performance!
💚 In a whole school effort, students burst into action as soon as they heard the music after Community Prayer, performing the choreographed dance they’ve been practising to surprise Mr Wright. We wish Mr Wright all the best as Principal of All Saints Catholic Primary School, Seaford.
As part of Galilee's Physical Education program, students in Years 3,4 and 5 are participating in tennis clinics run by tennis coach Adam Fonfe from the McLaren Vale Tennis Club. Mr Nizzola's Year 3 students (pictured) are enjoying the clinics where they are learning the sport as well as developing their fine motor skills plus speed, strength, coordination and agility.
Our R-2 and 3-6 Galilee students grabbed their glowsticks and danced the night away at last week's disco!
💐 Year 10 students perfected their woodwork skills by creating these handmade chopping boards as gifts for Mother's Day
The Marist Netball team is travelling to Perth to compete in the Marist Netball Carnival. To ease the financial burden, they are holding a fundraising quiz night on Friday 26 May at 6.00pm to raise much-needed funds. Tickets can be purchased online: https://www.eventbrite.com/e/marist-netball-quiz-night-tickets-633119947807
Tables of 10 are discounted so get your friends together for a fun night! Individual tickets also available. BYO drinks and nibbles!
Please be aware that there will be a pupil free day on Friday 23 June (Term 2, Week 8) to allow for staff professional learning. This professional learning is being facilitated by Dr Bill Hansberry in support of our current focus and commitment to the continuous improvement of the learning environment at Cardijn.
This pupil free day has been transferred from Term 3 when our staff formation day has historically taken place. This transfer of dates means that there will be no pupil free day during Term 3.
Thank you in advance for your support and understanding.
From the Deputy Principal
This week Catholic schools across the state are celebrating Catholic Education Week. Catholic Education in South Australia encompasses 101 Catholic schools with more than 8,400 staff and over 51,000 students. Here at Cardijn we are privileged to learn, teach, work and share in a community that is built upon our Catholic values, informed by the teachings of Joseph Cardijn and inspired by our Marist Charism and the teachings of St. Marcellin Champagnat. Pleasingly, these foundations are being lived out every day by our students and staff in tangible ways, and you will see this evidenced throughout this issue of Cardijn Connect.
A key example is the ongoing conversation we are having with students on the topic of Respectful Relationships and their call to action to ensure that every young person feels safe and has a sense of belonging and connection.
Another is the Family Spirit that was witnessed on the Galilee Campus on Wednesday where all staff and students participated in a ‘flash mob’ as we farewelled Mr. Nick Wright as he begins his Principalship at All Saints Catholic School. It was a fantastic celebration, and the students and staff were outstanding!!
To recognise Catholic Education Week, we have held tours on each campus with 96 prospective families visiting our College interested in enrolling their child into the Cardijn community. This demand to join Cardijn is significant, and it is the result of these foundations and the spirit embraced by our exceptional students and staff who make Cardijn the special place that it is!
