Cardijn Connect - W3, T1 2023
Established in 2019, the MarValla Café has become a weekly highlight for the Cardijn Community, while providing valuable social skills, money handling, budgeting and cooking learning opportunities for students in the Marist Centre.
Run solely by the students of the Marist Centre with the support of key staff, the MarValla Café provides a weekly fix of barista coffee and treats made in-house for staff to enjoy.
All proceeds raised support charity fundraising initiatives. In 2022, the MarValla Café raised over $1,353.95 to support charities chosen by the students.
Senior students undertaking Workplace Practices as part of their SACE, are able to extend their café skill development by engaging in several Barista and Food Handling units delivered onsite by an Accredited Training Organisation.
Thank you to all new families who joined us for the New Parent Welcome Night. It was amazing to see so many new faces and to connect in person over a BBQ served by student leaders in our student central plaza.
Galilee Campus parents/caregivers are invited to attend our parent engagement evening and hear from Executive Officer, Trish Jarvis of Catholic School Parents South Australia on how we can achieve a positive partnership between parents and school – and why!
The evening will also provide a great opportunity to meet new Cardijn College Principal Mr Steve Byrne and view our newly-opened Middle School Building.

Flourishing veggie beds with huge zucchinis, tomatoes and pumpkins were discovered by our students on their first Magic Harvest lesson of the year!
All their produce was hiding underneath large vines and a beautiful pink hollyhock with plenty of bees. Students conducted a soil test to further the life of their crops. If anyone in the community would like to become a volunteer in our produce garden, please see Carmen Moyse, Eco-literacy Coordinator or contact the Galilee Campus front office.
We were pleased to welcome back our highest achieving students from the Class of 2022 to celebrate the Dux Assembly last Friday.
As well as acknowledging the amazing achievements of students who achieved ATARs in the top 15% of the country, we celebrated our merit winners, three of whom are current Year 12 students.
Our special guest was Matthew Milovanovic, Dux of the Class of 2018, who shared some of his insights following graduating from Cardijn and since embarking on his career as a Paramedic.
College Dux Imogen Brown delivered an inspiring address to the audience of families, special guests, staff and current senior school students.
Our Class of 2022 achieved outstanding results in the SACE and we are incredibly proud of their efforts. View the 2022 SACE infographic for further details.
Mission Australia will be visiting each of our campuses to provide information to families on understanding the NDIS and eligibility for accessing support.
Please attend Front Reception at a time that is convenient.

From the Principal
The 2022 Dux Assembly is symbolic of the ‘core business’ of Cardijn – education! At our good school this education is holistic. In simple terms, the aim is to develop each young person spiritually, intellectually, socially, physically and emotionally. It also aims to provide learning opportunities to identify each student’s gifts and talents via a breadth of curriculum in the early, primary and middle years to provide potential pathways into senior schooling and post-school employment, study, careers and other opportunities.
The Dux Assembly celebrates our high academic achievers, just as our Marcellin Graduation Ceremony in December last year acknowledged our graduating apprentices (80% of the Year 12 graduates) and the celebration at Galilee as the Year 6 students conclude their primary schooling. Each of these is a ‘Rite of Passage’ typified by a formal celebration that one phase of each young person’s life is concluding and another commencing and done so in the presence of significant people in their lives – their parents, carers, peers and Cardijn staff members.
In conclusion, the involvement and presence of parents and carers has been stymied in recent years by the pandemic. It has been very pleasing to witness the drifting back of family members to the College for a variety of events and the daily drop-offs and pick-ups. I look forward to meeting many more of you at upcoming events across the College – just as occurred at the recent Marian Year 7 evening. Never underestimate the importance and impact of your presence and involvement in your child’s holistic education at Cardijn!
