Our senior Marist Centre students at Marian Campus have been busy completing a Stage 2 Business Innovation subject, developing various products for our community with a focus on sustainability and positive well-being. They designed a keep cup for the Marvalla Café and created fidget key chains and well-being products, all while acquiring life skills and pursuing their personal goals. They also crafted blank cards for all occasions as well as Christmas designs, all available for purchase at the Marist Centre.
These students collaborated with Marcellin Campus students, and with the support of Paul Campbell, they designed a display stand for selling their products at the upcoming Willunga Entrepreneur markets this summer. We appreciate the collaboration with Marcellin and thank Paul for his time and energy in supporting our students.
We are excited to announce the launch of the Dogs Connect program at Galilee Campus. This campus wellbeing program will see the introduction of a wellbeing dog at the school. Our campus wellbeing dog, named Milo, will become a much-loved and important member of the community.
The Dogs Connect program will support us in implementing this very gradually, thoroughly, and considerately.
Milo is a chocolate brown Australian Cobber who lives with Ms Rachel Bishop. Cobber dogs are bred to be calm, friendly and like being with people. They also have a hypoallergenic, non-shedding coat. We look forward to introducing Milo, our wellbeing dog to Galilee throughout this Term. Milo even attended his very first staff meeting at Galilee recently!
Keep an eye out in future editions of Cardijn Connect to follow Milo and his adventures in supporting our Galilee community as they engage in the Dogs Connect program.
⭐️ We congratulate Year 12 student Kristi who has been nominated for a Help Award in recognition of her work as an Individual Support Carer supporting young and elderly people with disabilities.
Kristi completed a Cert III in Individual Support as part of her Year 11 studies at Cardijn. She has been nominated in the Individual Star category and is also in the running for the People's Choice Award. Well done Kristi!
Marcellin Campus is proud to share some significant achievements in their ongoing commitment to fostering career development and opportunities for their students. The Campus has seen an impressive surge in apprenticeship sign-ups in recent months, marking a resounding success in their mission to prepare students for the world of work.
One of the key factors contributing to this achievement is Marcellin's robust partnership network. The college collaborates with local businesses, organisations, and industry leaders to provide valuable hands-on experience and apprenticeship opportunities for its students. This invaluable support system ensures that students are exposed to real-world challenges and gain insights into the demands of their chosen trades.
Each week, Cardijn Connect will highlight these student success stories to showcase the diverse and inspiring journeys of our newest school-based apprentices.
Three teams from Cardijn College have been selected by a panel of external judges to compete in the Future Anything National Semi-Finals, happening this week. They will be pitching their ideas against other teams for the chance to compete in the National Finals in Brisbane!
Congratulations and best of luck to:
JUMPLINE (Sebastian, Memphys, Damian)
COGNISHIELD SPORTSWEAR (Jack, Fletcher)
PLANT YOUR MIND (Alyssa, Brooke)
On Tuesday, approximately 45 students gathered from the Marian Campus and Galilee Campus for our second YCS Social Night of the year. The purpose of this night being simply an opportunity for our YCS students to come together in a sense of family spirit to have fun, continue to get to know one another, and celebrate the successful year that has been. We played a variety of classic games (e.g. rob the nest and human knot) and shared a pizza dinner from the local restaurant The Shack in Aldinga.
This was such a special event being our first collaborative event between our YCS groups from both campuses and being one of the last for our Year 12 this year. Our students did a wonderful job at planning the program and creating a welcoming environment for all to enjoy.
In PE, the Year 8/9 Galilee students have been engaging in a Muay Thai program led by Boars Gym instructors. They have learned many things including stance, balance, basic punches and kicks as well as the importance of control when performing these movements. Students have engaged in a range of exercises to improve their core stability and balance throughout these sessions. In the coming weeks students will be performing combinations and learning how to move while maintaining correct stance and control throughout.
The Marian Campus End of Year Art and Music night is being held in Week 5 on Thursday16 November.
As we conclude the year with the final performances of our music ensembles in Tangka, it's the perfect opportunity to enjoy the refreshing summer night air. Join us to celebrate a year of dedication and hard work from Cardijn Bands and Choirs, surrounded by family and friends.
For those seeking an inspiring indoor experience, step inside the lower level of the Chavoin building. Here, you can admire the exceptional works of this year's Year 12 Art, Design and Fashion students, as well as selected pieces from students in Years 7 to 11.
There will be an official opening of the Art Exhibition at 6:15pm, with music beginning at 6:30pm!
MacKillop House is once again gearing up to make a meaningful contribution to a worthwhile cause. In their commitment to making a difference to their House charity, MacKillop is actively participating in National Bandanna Day, an initiative that aims to ensure that no young person has to face the challenging journey of cancer alone.
As part of their initiative, MacKillop House has been selling bandannas this week to raise funds for CANTEEN, a charity dedicated to supporting individuals dealing with the difficulties of cancer. These bandannas serve as symbols of hope and solidarity, and every purchase contributes to CANTEEN's vital work.
This year, Mackillop House has taken their fundraising efforts a step further by setting up a dedicated online fundraising page. The intention behind this page is to expand their reach and garner additional support for their cause. The page, designed to facilitate ease of giving, can be accessed via the following link: https://www.bandannaday.org.au/s/8308/21494/e.
Thank you for your support and for being a part of this journey with Mackillop House.
Our Deputy Principal, Mr Patrick Harmer, is undertaking well-deserved Renewal Leave for the remainder of this term. This is a professional requirement of senior leaders in Catholic Education SA. Patrick is looking forward to undertaking some Melbourne Business School Leadership modules and some time to ‘renew’ and rejuvenate with his young family. As such, Ms Danielle Greig will be our Acting Deputy during Patrick’s Renewal Leave prior to heading off to her new role next year as Head of Marcellin Campus (Somerton Park) at Sacred Heart College. Further, Mr Wade Champion will be our Head of Marian Campus. We are blessed with a depth of talented and capable senior leaders and we wish Patrick, Danielle and Wade well for the remainder of Term 4!

This week we farewell our Year 12 graduates from the Marian Campus; the Class of 2023. These graduates have completed 13 years of formal schooling and whilst a number of them still have their final exams to complete and some coursework to finalise, they now embark on the next stage of their journey. In farewelling this graduating cohort, we are confident that these graduates leave the Cardijn community with the knowledge, skills and capabilities to do remarkable things, and most importantly, be positive contributors to their community and society more broadly. We also thank their parents for trusting us in educating their son or daughter and for working in partnership throughout this journey. To the class of 2023, please remember, in the words of Cardinal Joseph Cardijn to, “See, Judge and Act” and make a positive difference to those around you, and through our Marist charism, in the spirit of St. Marcellin Champagnat, to be present to those around you, with simplicity, displaying family spirit, loving the work that you do and doing it all in the way of our eternal role model Mary!
As we farewell this graduating cohort, we leave them with this final blessing:
May the road rise up to meet you.
May the wind be always be at your back.
May the sun shine warm upon your face;
The rains fall soft upon your fields and until we meet again,
May God hold you in the palm of His hand.
