During Week 1, all campuses held Academic Assemblies to celebrate our students' achievements. The award recipients have demonstrated exceptional commitment and dedication to their studies in Semester 1. We proudly congratulated and honoured these students for their outstanding contributions to our College community.
Awards presented at the Galilee Academic Assembly
Academic Excellence:
This award acknowledges students who achieved As in both their academic endeavour and academic grade. These students have demonstrated diligence, work ethic and perseverance in their learning and have fully embraced the Marist charism of Love of Work.
Academic Endeavour:
Acknowledges students who have demonstrated outstanding endeavour and effort with their learning.
Awards presented at the Marian Academic Assembly
Academic Endeavour:
These awards recognise students who received an ‘A’ grade for their endeavour in all subjects.
Academic Achievement:
To receive an Academic Achievement Award in Years 7 to 11, students must achieve As in all subjects, or all As and one B. Year 12s must receive As in all subjects.
Academic Merit:
These awards are presented to students who achieved final semester grades in the A band for Academic Achievement and demonstrated excellence for Academic Endeavour across all subjects. This means that every grade on their report card was an A. It is an outstanding accomplishment to achieve such excellent results.
Awards presented at the Marcellin Academic Assembly
Alongside the Academic Excellence Award, numerous students at Marcellin were honoured with the Success Award. This award acknowledges their achievements across various domains, including academic effort and improvement, trade learning, employability skills, and embodying Marist characteristics.
Last week, approximately 30 students from both the Marian and Marcellin campuses joined in with a community walk to raise awareness and money for the Hutt St. Centre. We were privileged to walk alongside other people in our community from the McLaren Value Primary School, Willunga Wanderers, and Willunga High School. In the early morning hours, at 6:30 am we gathered in the cold to prepare for the long walk ahead. After some presentations and thank yous, we set off on the official walk. With a couple of breaks and lunch stops on the way, we were greeted by the Hutt St. Centre team with a lot of excitement and refreshments at the end of the day.
Our students walked a huge 46kms from McLaren Vale Primary School to Hutt Street Centre in the city – we are so proud of these wonderful young people. They represented our school and themselves extremely well not only throughout the day but also through partaking in this incredible initiative. It took over 10 hours to complete the walk (with stops) – a task that should not be underestimated. It was physically and mentally challenging and these students did it for a good cause. We are so grateful for everyone’s support within our community (student, staff, and families). We were able to raise just over $10,000 – a figure we are hoping to continue building upon for term.
A reflection from Astrid, a Year 11 student from Marian who also participated in the social media takeover for the day:
"I really enjoyed the experience as although there were challenging parts, the continuous support between one another, the music, the laughs, and the newfound friendships really helped along the way. The walk also put into perspective our reason behind why we were raising money because although the walk wasn’t easy, when we arrived at Hutt St Centre it demonstrated that while we may have been in physical pain it did not compare to the seriousness of homelessness in SA." -Astrid, Year 11 Student
We can’t wait to walk again next year for this incredible cause. Congratulations once again to all our walkers!
To further reduce the number of items ending up in landfills, the Middle School students and staff conducted a bin audit to see what was in their bins.
Their first step is to ensure that food waste is placed in the correct bin for composting.
Year 9 student Jett organised a Forms survey to gather feedback from each student immediately after the bin audit on what they think the most important next step should be.
Stay tuned for updates!
Congratulations to Marcellin Year 10 students in Crew J who took out the final of the Marcellin indoor soccer competition this week.
Organised by Mr Charl Abd Elmalk, the competition began last term, concluding in the final on Tuesday!
Well done to Crew G, Year 11 students who finished runners up in the grand final.
Our Year 5/6 SAPSASA girls have advanced to the finals after winning their second-round match at McLaren Flat on Tuesday. We would like to express our gratitude to our amazing coach, Tristan Sampson. The girls are thrilled to have the chance to play in the final in week 6.
A group of Marian Year 7s and 8s attended a presentation by historian and author Mark Greenwood.
Mark brought history to life and captivated the students with tales from Australian history based on his travels. He encouraged them to be curious about historical mysteries and shared useful tips to help them enhance their writing.
Feedback from our students:
- “One of the best assemblies I have been to.”
- “I liked how well he spoke and how interesting he made it and how much detail he put into his story.”
- “I learnt that everything you can see can be a story with a bit of imagination.”
- “His storytelling abilities and ability to notice and observe is amazing…how does he do it?”
The students were highly engaged and demonstrated their enthusiasm when they raced to borrow Mark's books from the Resource Centre (they were all gone minutes after his presentation finished!) and many requests to staff to order more of his books.
A huge thank you to Mark for visiting Cardijn and presenting to our students. We hope that some of our students will be part of the next generation of 'history hunters'.
Thank you to all students and families who attended the Pathways Expo. The event was hugely successful and well-attended.
For those who were unable to attend or missed out on the booklet, you can access the Pathways Expo booklet here.
The booklet contains basic information and resources shared during the event. We hope you find it helpful!
This Monday, our theme is 'Hungry Caterpillars'. We will be getting crafty with Hungry Caterpillar stamping!

It has been another excellent week at the College with so much happening across all three campuses. The recent academic awards assemblies and presentations have highlighted the outstanding achievements of our students. I extend my congratulations to these students and all who gave their best efforts and dedicated themselves to their academic studies during Semester 1.
As we begin a new semester, there is the opportunity in many ways to start again. A new semester sometimes brings with it new teachers, new subjects, and new learning content. This provides the perfect opportunity for students to start afresh and set new goals and targets for their learning. We encourage families to speak to their children about their learning goals and how they might achieve these!
This week I had the privilege of attending the Marist Schools Australia Biennial Conference in Mparntwe, Alice Springs, Northern Territory. A particular highlight of this opportunity was a visit to Lytente Apurte/Santa Teresa an Aboriginal settlement of approximately 600 people belonging to the Eastern Arrernte people. The community is located roughly 83 km southeast of Alice Springs – on the northwestern tip of the Simpson Desert.
What struck me most about this experience was the incredible welcome we experienced and the connection of this community to their lands. Often, we acknowledge the land that we live, work, and play on, and to be present with the Arrente People in Lytente Apurte was a privilege. It reaffirmed our commitment to working towards true reconciliation and to walking in truth, treaty, and voice with Australia’s Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Peoples.
