Cardijn Connect - a source of news and information for the Cardijn community. The blog will be published every Thursday during the school term with past editions always accessible from the menu.
On Wednesday morning, the Hon. Amanda Rishworth MP, Federal Member for Kingston and Minister for Social Services, visited Galilee for Community Prayer. During the event, the Year 1 students led the community in a special Mother's Day prayer to express gratitude for the special women in our lives.
After prayer, Minister Rishworth presented Galilee with new flags and explained each flag's significance to the students, including the Australian flag, the Aboriginal flag, and the Torres Strait Islander flag.
Our Student Ambassadors accepted these flags on behalf of Galilee, and our student leaders have committed to taking care of the flags and ensuring that they are flown with respect.
Please join us for a historic day celebrating Cardijn College's 40th anniversary. This unmissable event, 'Back to Cardijn', is scheduled for Sunday 27 October 2024 at Marian Campus, with further details and time TBA.
Save the date and join us in honouring the past and celebrating the future of Cardijn College. Stay tuned for more details to follow!
Our Year 10 Football Academy has just completed a rigorous 4-week athletic development program at Limitless Athletic Development. The program focused on improving strength, speed, pregame priming, and aerobic conditioning, preparing our players to dominate on the football field this year. We are excited to witness their electrifying performances this season.
We express our gratitude to Ben Yeomans and Shaun King of Limitless Athletic Development for their valuable contribution to the Year 10 Football Academy program. Their involvement has helped our footballers understand the significance of athletic development in their football journey.
During Term 1, Marian students in Year 8 took part in a basketball workshop organised by Basketball SA as part of their Physical Education classes.
Under the guidance of basketball professionals, the students took part in a variety of engaging basketball activities. The main objective of this initiative was to introduce students to the wide range of opportunities that basketball provides beyond the school environment.
The Galilee school sports activities had a fantastic start over the weekend, with basketball games held on Friday and soccer games on Saturday!
Galilee hosted three soccer games, and we would like to express our gratitude to the coaches for volunteering. Witnessing the joy and excitement on the students' faces was truly beautiful.
Marcellin Year 12 student Lincoln recently competed in the School Sport Australia tournament held in the ACT as a part of the State Under 18s Baseball team for South Australia. The team won the Bronze medal in the 3rd place playoff.
Lincoln played a significant role in securing the victory for SA and was awarded the Most Valuable Player (MVP) for South Australia in the game against the ACT.
Congratulations, Lincoln, on your excellent performance in the tournament!
The Marian Year 12 Nutrition students have been busy conducting a practical to discover how digestion occurs. They used a range of enzymes to simulate digestion of carbohydrates, proteins, and lipids in preparation for their design summative later in the term.
Year 3s from Kerry Janssan's homegroup learn about the Autumn/Parnati season and plant lettuce, snow peas, and garden peas in their salad plot.
We want to express our gratitude to the parent volunteers for their invaluable support!
Last term as part of Galilee’s Indigenous Garden project, Indigenous students and their buddies participated in a ‘bush tucker taste test’ to try foods related to plants that could be planted in the garden.
Students were invited to look, smell, and/or taste the following foods:
- River mint jelly
- Native Bush Dukkah
- Bush apple paste
- Lemon myrtle tea
- Finger lime paste
- Lemon myrtle and raspberry jam
The students had the following recommendations:
Lilah – ‘We should definitely plant the river mint. It tastes like toothpaste!’
Mason – ‘The Bush apple paste is so sweet!’
Grace – ‘I like the native bush dukkah with bread and olive oil.’
Lennox – ‘I think we should plant lemon myrtle so we can make the tea.’

We would like to congratulate Jasper on this remarkable achievement and wish him all the best in his new role. Well done, Jasper!

In recent weeks we have seen a significant increase in the conversation around the right for women to feel safe and live free from violence. This is in response to the abhorrent behaviours and incidents that have been reported, and we know, there are so many more that we simply are not aware of. Personally, I find it astonishing, and devastating, that we cannot ensure this basic human right is afforded to females within our society.
It has been pleasing to see many of our Year 9 Rite Journey classes having a conversation about this topic and discussing their role in ensuring there is change. At Cardijn, we have a responsibility to ensure that every individual feels safe; safe physically, emotionally and spiritually. We also aspire to develop graduates who are well-rounded and can live faithfully and with integrity.. that is Our Cardijn Way! Whilst we know we are just one educational setting within what is a multi-faceted and complex society, we will be doing everything we can to continue to educate students on their moral imperative to ensure the dignity of every person is respected.
Wade Champion (Head of Campus – Marian) shared this prayer earlier in the week and I would like to share it with our broader community also:
God of love, compassion and healing, we pray to you for the elimination of violence against women:
For women and girls who have experienced violent relationships, that they can find safety and healing from their trauma, and rebuild their lives;
For children who have witnessed violence in their homes against their mothers and sisters and other family members, that they will experience healing and hope;
For Indigenous women and refugee women who have been impacted by extreme violence, that deep and lasting change will ensure their safety;
For individuals and organisations working to prevent violence against women and girls and help survivors of violence, that their courage and generosity will endure;
For men who speak out against forms of expression that demean women or condone violence against them, that their voices will grow stronger;
For the men and boys who have behaved violently towards women and girls that they will have a change of heart, repent in meaningful ways, and seek whatever help they need to lead changed lives.
God of love, we commend these prayers to you and for your compassion to flood the hearts of all people.
Amen
