Cardijn Connect - W2, T1 2023
We have loved getting to know our youngest students as they begin their schooling journey in 2023. Here’s what some of the students shared about starting Reception at Galilee Campus:
In class we draw and sing and trace things. Our teacher lets us go outside.
- Hannah
I like the playground and I like eating lunch. I have a sandwich today.
- Angus
My brother was at Galilee. He's at Cardijn now he's 11. I see his friends at lunch time.
- Scott
We colour in, we do some learning and some tracing. At the end of the day we get to have a rest.
- Billie
I go here because I’m 5 now. I like all the trees and all the rooms.
- Toby
The Senior Student Leader Gathering, held in the first week of school was an incredible opportunity for the Year 11 and 12 leaders, from both the Marian and Marcellin Campuses, to come together to explore all things leadership!
As well as spending some time with our College Principal Mr Steve Byrne, our leaders participated in a number of thought provoking sessions, guiding them to consider their own leadership style, discuss and practice effective communication strategies, hear advice and encouragement from College old scholars and explore what it means to be a Marist leader, inspired by the 2023 theme ‘Created and Called.’
Our final session gave students an opportunity to spot strengths in one another, using their words and actions to create a ‘web of support,’ a metaphor for the support they will offer each other as a leadership team in 2023.
Throughout the gathering, we often paused to participate in activities inspired by Positive Education theory with a particular focus on gratitude. The camp culminated in a student led presentation to families and a shared morning tea. Thank you to the outstanding student leaders who attended this gathering and we are so excited for the amazing things ahead!
Breakfast Club is back for 2023!
Some of our wonderful student leaders and staff have teamed up with Foodbank to operate this fantastic initiative.
Breakfast Club will run every Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday from 7.45 - 8.15am in the Home Ec Centre on Marian Campus. Students are provided with free breakfast staples including toast with butter and vegemite or Weetbix. Everyone is welcome.
This week the staff and students of Galilee Campus gathered for a whole school Welcome Mass to begin the 2023 school year. The focus of the Mass was on the Marist theme, Created + Called - a revolution of love and tenderness.
The Mass provided an opportunity to welcome new principal Mr Steve Byrne with the Galilee sand and water ritual, along with a student to represent the many new students and staff that have joined the Galilee community this year.
BADGE Constructions has commenced the refurbishment of the Metal Engineering workshop at Marcellin Campus to develop a ‘state of the art’ Automotive and Metal Engineering training facility. The new workshops are aimed at providing students and apprentices with modern and up to date facilities to learn their trade and develop their skills. The new workshop will also incorporate contemporary learning areas as well as an outdoor space for study and recreation.
From the Deputy Principal
It has been another fantastic week for the Cardijn community!
It is not lost on me how significant the start to this year has been, particularly considering that last year we began the year with a number of year levels learning remotely from home. This was no more evident than at our New Family Welcome Night on the Marian Campus on Wednesday night where we welcomed nearly 400 parents to the College; the buzz as families connected was palpable! This partnership with families is crucial and we look forward to continuing to forge new partnerships and further strengthening existing partnerships with our entire parent community.
As you can see from the information above there have been a significant number of events and celebrations throughout the past week, all of which make Cardijn the special place it is. There is much to look forward to in the coming weeks, the Dux Assembly tomorrow, Year 7-12 Sports Day next Friday and the beginning of summer sports, just to name a few!
I hope you enjoy reading the beautiful insights from our new Year 7s at Marian, Year 10s at Marcellin and the incredible Reception students at Galilee.
The Cardijn community is alive and well and we thank you for your continued support, commitment and enthusiasm.
