What a vibrance of colour from Galilee's Sports Day last Friday!
A big shoutout to Marigold for their outstanding sportsmanship, taking home the Spirit Cup this year. Wattle clinched the overall win of the Sports Day Shield and came first in the Whole School Relay Sprint.
As always, we thank our staff and parents/caregivers for their ongoing support and efforts in making this day an annual success.
Monday marked an exciting day at Cardijn as Leah Grant, a talented local mural artist, arrived to start the creation of a vibrant new mural for Marian! Collaborating closely with students, Leah ignited the design process, inspiring students to sketch out their creative visions. In the afternoon, students helped Leah prepare the wall by painting it white, setting the stage for the mural to be created.
Last Friday, Marcellin hosted our first Success Assembly for the year, a platform dedicated to recognising the achievements of our students during Term 1. Teachers and trainers highlighted individuals who excelled in the following five areas:
- Trade Learning

- Academic Effort
- Employability Skills
- Marist Characteristics
We would like to congratulate the following students:
Year 10:
Alex, Angus, Brodie, Charlie, Harper, Hunter, Kai, Lucy, Noah, Rachel, Savannah, Scarlett, and Jack.
Year 11:
Amelia, Anthony-Luke, Braelen, Jerome, Jesse, Keagan, Kirrily, Ky, Lily, Noah, Tahlia, Tom, and Zoe.
Year 12:
Briana, Greg, James, Paige, and Tallan.
Fantastic efforts made by our students! Keep up the excellent work as we progress through the school year.
Throughout Lent, our community has truly excelled in their efforts to support Project Compassion. Our Odd Socks day proved to be a great success, generating over $400! In addition to this, numerous other initiatives have taken place, each deserving of recognition. We look forward to sharing our total amount raised in the weeks to come.
Baylin’s Lemonade Stand!
Reception student Baylin decided to raise money for Project Compassion by setting up a stall at the front of his house to sell homemade lemonade with tasty treats.
Baylin raised an incredible $140 for Project Compassion! His initiative serves as a shining testament to the fact that age should never be a barrier to making a meaningful impact and helping those in need.
A huge congratulations to Baylin and his family for running this fantastic initiative; the money raised will certainly make a difference in the lives of those in need.
‘Tapitas’ Raised $138.95!
The students in Mrs McLaren and Ms Little’s Year 4 class created their own fundraising idea for Project Compassion, raising money by doing jobs around the house and placing drips of water under their Caritas tap. They called this ‘Tapitas’. The students have raised a significant amount of money and it's great to see all of the drips growing underneath the ‘Tapitas’ tap in their classroom window. The students took time to reflect on this learning experience, and here's what they had to say:
‘Our class raised $138.95 for Project Compassion, by doing chores and housework in our homes. We put the money in the Project Compassion box. For every $5 we raised we put a water droplet under the tap and we called it ‘Tapitas’.’- Akasha
‘I liked giving money to the poor people because I felt sad for them. I did a lot of stuff to raise $35, like chores around the house and when people visited I asked them for a donation. It felt so good to help and it's exciting to know that people who need it would get this money.’- Lilah
Well done Year 4s, it's great to see you put our motto of ‘See, Judge, Act’ into action!
In Miss Underwood's Year 10 Home Economics class, the students have been learning about the scientific principles that are involved in baking. The students were tasked with planning, designing and producing a unique and delicious baked product that showcases their creativity and expertise.
Through this process, they have gained knowledge about how different branches of science influence the outcome of a baked product. Students focused on contemporary plating and presentation, whilst adhering to food hygiene and safety practices
Dishes featured: Profiteroles, Strawberry Shortcake, New York Baked Cheesecakes, Apple Custard Pie & Strawberry Trifle.
Well done! They look incredible.
Year 11s Constructing Woodwork
The Year 11 students have completed impressive assignments in Skills Practical, constructing footstools and breadboards, showcasing their ability to apply their acquired skills in real-world tasks.
Year 10 Completed Projects
Year 10 students at have recently completed various woodwork projects, producing items such as chopping blocks, rosewood bottle holders, and spatulas, demonstrating their growing skills in craftsmanship.

To celebrate the hard work from Term 1, Year 12 students gathered on Tuesday morning for a shared breakfast. Bacon, eggs, and fruit were served up as the students reflected on the term together.
Well done to all Year 12s on an excellent start to 2024!
Congratulations to our outstanding Middle School students for their exceptional display of character strengths during Term 1! These remarkable individuals have exemplified qualities such as social intelligence, commitment, love of learning, and leadership, making a positive impact on our school community.
Being the last week of term, we've had a bit of extra fun in the classrooms. Students in Year 10 have been putting their biological knowledge to the test, using lollies and liquorice to create edible DNA molecules. Mrs Taylor’s class combined their delicious creations into one gargantuan DNA masterpiece. Who knew science could be this tasty?
Over the past fortnight, Marcellin's Year 10 students were visited by Amanda Hewer (Born to Build) and Elisha Walsh (Brick and Block Careers). During these sessions, Amanda and Elisha provided valuable insights into the diverse sectors and trade pathways available within the construction industry.
The Year 10 cohort also visited a Fairmont Homes site in Seaford Meadows, where they experienced a walkthrough of five sites at differing stages of construction.
Industry immersions are so important for the students at Marcellin, providing them with valuable insight into a potential trade pathway.
On Tuesday, Evie, a Year 6 student at Galilee, competed in the Onkaparinga SAPSASA Swimming Carnival. Her relay team clinched third place, securing a bronze medal! She was the only representative from Galilee on the team.
Well done Evie! 🌟🌟🌟
Kolbe House has emerged victorious in a hard-fought House Soccer tournament against Romero, with the scoreline ending 1-0 in favour of Kolbe.
Last week, the Year 3s enjoyed the 'Investigators Garden Club' play at Galilee. This play complements the Magic Harvest program, teaching the students about the importance of soil and gardening.
The Galilee Mini-Vinnies have been busy baking ANZAC biscuits for the upcoming dawn service! The student leaders and ambassadors will represent Galilee at the service and plan to hand deliver the biscuits to people attending. The ANZAC Day Dawn Service will be held at the Aldinga War Memorial during the school holidays, and we hope to see you there.
The Galilee YCS group have also been crafting tissue paper poppies and an ANZAC wreath that will be laid by Galilee students during the dawn service.
These are some fabulous examples of students volunteering their own time whilst supporting and building connections in the wider Aldinga community!
This Friday 12 April is the final day of Term 1 with students dismissed at normal time. We look forward to welcoming all students back for Term 2 on Monday 29 April.
Cardijn College Strategic Plan: Towards 2027…. Our Cardijn Way!
Our Cardijn Way fosters a culture of belonging and aspiration.
We work in partnership to encourage, enable, and support students, families, and staff to live faithfully and with integrity.
In the context of Cardijn’s 40th Anniversary, it is timely and appropriate to launch the over-arching plan for the next chapter of the College. The above statement was formulated by a staff working party and workshopped with our Middle School Leaders in an attempt to capture ‘Our Cardijn Way’, or culture to inspire forward-looking strategic documentation. Drafts were consulted upon before finalising this document.
Please visit the College website to read Towards 2027… Our Cardijn Way.
Intentionally, the language is accessible, our relationship with Catholic Education South Australia is clear, our context over the past four decades is laid out and our Mission, Vision, Values and Ethos are succinctly presented. Using these as our foundation, ‘Our Pillars’ are presented for the community. Each Campus Leadership Team will now develop their Annual Improvement Plans in reference to the Pillars. The unique identity of each campus is best captured in the quote from the opening page: …there is Unity in Diversity!
As we know, Cardijn College is a large, complex Catholic educational community that requires astute strategic planning and ‘Our Cardijn Way’ is the road map for the next few years!
With thanks for all that Term 1, 2024 has been and enjoy the break!
