Key activities included:
◾️ Keynote Speakers: Staff listened to expert keynote speakers and gained valuable insights and innovative teaching strategies.
◾️ Workshops: Engaged in practical workshops conducted by peers, promoting collaboration and the exchange of best practices.
◾️ Marcellin Campus Tour: Explored the Marcellin Campus, learning about new facilities and their potential to enhance our teaching environment.
◾️ Team building: Participated in team-building activities including an Amazing Race, strengthening our community and fostering a collaborative spirit.
◾️ Staff Formation Day: The week concluded with a Formation Day at Sacred Heart College, focusing on our shared mission and values.
This professional learning experience provided staff with a concentrated week of gaining new knowledge and building stronger, more cohesive teams dedicated to providing the best education for our students.
Thank you to all our staff for their hard work and dedication in the first semester of 2024. Your efforts are genuinely appreciated and make a meaningful impact on our community.
Galilee was fortunate to be a part of the One Tree Per Child program run by the City of Onkaparinga. We were gifted nearly 40 trees to re-establish our Sheoak forest and wetlands.
The Youth Environment Group, Year 9 Passionate Permaculture students and Year 2 students participated in the day. These trees will provide vital food and habitat to the yellow-tailed black cockatoos as well as other birds and animals who are indigenous to the area.
A big thank you to all the students who were involved as well as Councillor - South Coast ward Lauren Jew, Jeremy Gramp from Green Adelaide, Michael from Maintenance/Grounds, Courtney and Andy.
Stay organised this term and mark these upcoming important dates.
📅 Further details regarding specific events will be communicated accordingly as they approach.
Year 12 student Jessie recently completed her work experience with SAPOL and received fantastic feedback from supervisor Kylie who said, "Jessie was a pleasure to have on this program. She was polite, likeable, interested, and mature. She listened well throughout the program, and I hope she considers SAPOL as a potential career option."
Year 12 student Paige had a successful traineeship sign-up meeting with Rob Brokenshire at his dairy farm in Mt Compass. Paige is now working towards a Certificate III in Agriculture. Awesome work Paige!
Year 11 student Harry has been completing his work experience at MD Auto, located in Aldinga. Owner Mick (pictured) said, "Harry is possibly the best work experience student that we have ever had and has outstanding manners and a great attitude."
Year 11 student Zoe spent an incredible work experience week with BH Plumbing SA, alongside Marcellin students Cody and Ryan, who are currently employed there as apprentices. Zoe’s hard work has paid off, and she has now transitioned into an apprenticeship with BH Plumbing SA. Congratulations, Zoe!
Year 11 student Lily recently completed her work experience with Lonsdale Metal Works. During her time there, she gained valuable insights into the metalworking industry, honed her skills, and contributed to several projects. The team at Lonsdale Metal Works was impressed with her dedication, enthusiasm, and the quality of her work.
Marian and Marcellin students are braving the cold bright and early Friday morning (26 July) to participate in the 'Walk A Mile In My Boots' fundraising walk, supporting people facing homelessness in SA.
Year 11 Marian student Astrid will be taking over our social media stories during this initiative. Make sure to follow us on Instagram and Facebook for exclusive behind-the-scenes content, interviews, and real-time updates posted to our stories.
DONATIONS ARE DOUBLED - TODAY ONLY!
From 9am today (Thursday, 25 July), every donation we receive (up to $250) will be doubled!

Late last term, Premier's Reading Challenge Ambassador Sue Harris visited the Marian Campus Year 7 students to discuss how reading plays a significant role in her work as a puppeteer.
During the presentation, Sue showcased the puppet characters she had created. Some students had the opportunity to participate as puppeteers or assistants!
She explained that reading non-fiction books has provided valuable information and inspiration for her workshops and plays. She shared how the knowledge gained from reading has influenced the techniques and methods she uses to create her handmade puppets.
Below are comments from Year 7 students following the session with Sue:
“We enjoyed the whole show, but we found the part when she could control the puppet's facial expressions and body language while keeping a straight expression the most fascinating! We also loved how interactive it was with the audience and the history of the puppets.” – Molly & Linh
“The puppeteer that came to school this morning was funny, wholesome, and inspirational. She taught us the importance of reading and that it is important for lots of jobs.” – Keira, Alaynah, & Isla
Our Year 12 Marian Food and Hospitality students worked with South Australian producers to create cheese boxes using in-season produce, which were then raffled off to Cardijn staff.
Each student made their own component before coming together to present their collaborative work.
Ms Takianos, Mr Englehardt, and Ms D’Cruz were the lucky recipients of the class' efforts.
Our Year 7 students concluded the term with an exciting incursion from Animals Anonymous! During this interactive session, they had the opportunity to meet and pat native Australian animals. This hands-on experience enhanced their understanding of biodiversity and classification, directly connecting their classroom learning to real-life examples.

Last term, Galilee had seven teams participate in the SACPSSA Netball Carnival at Netball SA Stadium.
Thank you to our parent volunteers Todd, Tristan, Nona, and Marny for braving the chilly conditions!
We are pleased to share that our Marist Centre students have built a composting machine named "Casper the Eater," which converts organic waste into compost for our school garden beds.
Guided by Dr Pranay Sharma and Ms Ebony Darling, this achievement highlights our students' impressive skills and dedication to making a positive environmental impact, demonstrating their commitment to sustainability and environmental stewardship.
Our Inclusive Education students from the Marist Centre enjoyed a fantastic two-session excursion to the Art Gallery of South Australia.
The first session was a sensory lesson that utilised props to enhance their understanding of the artworks and their relevance to life.
The second session was a drawing workshop that helped the students develop their ability to observe and learn about artworks, both verbally and practically.
The students participated in all sessions with a great deal of enthusiasm and the following day they began applying their learning in the classroom. They are eagerly looking forward to going back again!
We would like to express our gratitude to AGSA and their presenters for the inspiring sessions.
Welcome, Year 10 Crew L, to Marcellin! This marks the start of a journey filled with opportunities for learning, growth, and success.

Dear Cardijn Community,
Welcome to Term 3 which constitutes the second semester of the 2024 academic year.
Across the College, various assemblies are held this week in recognition of the Cardijn students who have committed themselves to their school work, studies or trade training, depending on their campus. These are very profound moments, indicative of our young people who have a true sense of the importance and benefits of striving to ‘be the best they can be’ in their schooling.
I acknowledge that our students display a range of gifts and talents. Academic acumen is one of these and thus these students receive ‘Academic Excellence’ awards in recognition and as motivation to continue to strive for high achievements in their chosen, and often the most challenging, subjects or learning areas. However, another award, 'Academic Endeavour', (however worded) acknowledges and rewards students who are perceived by their teachers to be giving of their best and are committed to their ‘personal best’ learning outcomes. This is not a comparative process. All students at Cardijn are capable of achieving this award IF they take their schooling seriously and engage in the holistic Cardijn learning program. This would be a healthy discussion at home that can encourage, motivate and support all our students to be their best selves. The role of significant adults in the educational journey of young people is highly influential and should not be underestimated.
With so many students achieving so much in the first half of the year we look forward to consolidating and improving on this into the remainder of 2024 and beyond at Cardijn!
Best wishes,
Steve Byrne
Principal
