Marian students gathered in Student Central this week as the Cardijn College Army Cadet Unit hosted an ANZAC Service. The Last Post was performed by Year 10 student Lauren. Lest We Forget.
Marian Campus students represented the College at ANZAC Day services both last night and this morning, in particular, at the moving ANZAC Youth Vigil held at the Morphett Vale Eternal Flame Memorial Gardens. Our College Captains Alex and Aden and Mission Captains Issabell and Charron played significant roles as ushers and coordinators of the students from local primary schools and Alex performed the Australian national anthem. They laid a candle and wreath at the memorial and remained onsite throughout the evening and held further supporting duties at the Dawn Service.
The Cardijn College Army Cadet Unit 430 formed part of the honour guard, standing in shifts at the eternal flame from 6.00pm through to 6.00am when they also took part in the Dawn Service. Renton, who holds the rank of Warrant Officer Class 1 (WO1) and the role of Regimental Sergeant Major (RSM) gave the direction to the youth forming the honour guard.
We also recognise a number of other Cardijn students who represented community organisations at the vigil, in particular Tan who was the youth guest speaker and Kristi who joined Tan in their roles as comperes representing Surf Life Saving SA.
We congratulate and acknowledge old scholar Callum Barrott-Walsh ('22) for his key role as Chairperson of the Planning Committee for the Youth Vigil in the South.
๐ผ๏ธ Marian Campus Art, Creative Arts and Marist Centre students on a modified Arts program attended a Senior school Arts Excursion last term.
๐๏ธ The group had an opportunity to view the Year 12 SACE Art Show and see the works of 3 our own Year 12 students from 2022. Our budding artists also visited the Art Gallery of South Australia viewing the incredible Andy Warhol exhibition. Students used this time to take in the quality works and to inform their own personal idea development.
Over the next two weeks as part of PLP, Year 10 Marian students will have the opportunity to engage in career workshops run by the University of Adelaide. These interactive workshops guide students through the multitude of career options available to them as they continue to explore their strengths and interests and determine how these can be translated into viable employment outcomes through an examination of current and future job trends. Students from Kolbe, Mitchell, Romero and Lombard participated in the workshop this week, with the remaining houses to engage with the program next Tuesday.
The workshops provide another opportunity for students to explore the possibilities as they prepare to make informed decisions about their future pathways.
Another of these opportunities is the Marian Campus Year 10 Work Experience program. Students are reminded that placements must be secured by the end of week 5, including all relevant paperwork.
We are looking forward to welcoming the Cardijn community to the Careers and Pathways Expo on Wednesday 21 June from 2.30 - 5.00pm in the Marian Campus Gym. A variety of different industries and organisations will be represented, with presentations from some major brands, including the University of Adelaide.
Over the coming weeks we will highlight some of the key presenters we will be hosting at the expo. Running parallel with the expo, participants will have access to presentations, including the University of Adelaide Jobs of the Future.
It is estimated that over 40% of jobs are at risk of becoming automated in the next 20 years. The aim of this presentation is to generate thinking about the jobs of the future, and what this could mean for future career direction. Hear about emerging technologies and industries, as well as the skills that will be needed to thrive in an ever-changing workforce.
Not long now! Marcellin's new Engineering and Automotive Workshop โis on track to be completed later this year.

Construction students are currently working on a timber, slanted-roof gazebo for Marcellin students to enjoy at break times. Stay tuned for the finished result!
Kicking off this term, students at Galilee held an Easter Mass. This was the first time the whole school community has gathered for 2023, including new Reception students.
Easter is the most important celebration in the Catholic calendar, remembering the new life we are offered through Christ’s resurrection. To help connect with the theme each class used their creativity to contribute a symbol of “New Life” for the Mass' sacred space.
Term 1 2023 signalled the first year that Year 9 has been offered at Galilee Campus. This coincided with the opening of a brand new Middle School building, encompassing classrooms, the new library and a STEM space.
Galilee students in Vacation Care had a ball over the break! They were kept busy with craft activities, outside games, incursions and excursions over the school holidays.
Catholic School Parents SA presents an inspirational evening with Gill Hicks MBE AM Resilience - a raw conversation with Gill on her personal story of strength, gratitude and how it relates to families.

From the Deputy Principal
Over the holiday break our students represented the College at a number of different Easter Masses, Anzac vigils and dawn services. The way these students represented our community was outstanding. I would like to particularly acknowledge the Cardijn College Army Cadet Unit 430 who formed part of the honour guard at the Morphett Vale dawn service, standing in shifts at the eternal flame from 6:00pm right through to 6:00am when they also took place in the dawn service. An incredible achievement and a wonderful act of remembrance as we honour those ANZACs who served, and the active members of our defence forces who continue to serve today.
As we begin Term 2, we welcome our students back to school in their winter uniforms. The way our students, across all three campuses, have presented themselves as they have returned to school has been exceptional. We have made a concerted effort to raise the standards regarding uniform and presentation across the College and we are grateful for your support in this endeavour. The uniform is an important aspect of our school as it assists in creating a sense of identity, builds solidarity and allows every young person to feel a sense of equity and belonging as they focus on what is most important, their learning. Thank you again for your support - I know there were a number of ‘tie tying’ lessons late Sunday evening!!
Best wishes for a successful Term 2!
