The first day back at Cardijn College for 2024 was filled with enthusiasm, setting the tone for an exciting academic year ahead for all three campuses.
Last Thursday, before the students returned, the Galilee Campus hosted a special all-campus staff mass, where returning staff welcomed new members into the Cardijn community.
Following this gathering, everyone enjoyed a delightful morning tea and was invited to mingle outdoors, soaking in the serene beauty that defines the Galilee Campus.
Staff members took guided tours of the campus for both new and returning colleagues, helping foster a deeper sense of connection and familiarity within the community.
First day at Marian
At Marian Campus, our Year 7 students were warmly welcomed by our Year 12 students on Monday as they were taken on tours of the College and enjoyed an ice cream at lunch time.
Cardijn Traffic Management
We understand that the main drop-off point at Marian roundabout has become congested with many families choosing this location for morning drop-offs.
To improve traffic congestion and safety, we kindly urge families to consider using our three drop-off locations:
• The main roundabout
• St. Luke’s Church Car Park
• The underpass entrance (located adjacent to the school oval, connecting to the Colonnades car park).
As part of our ongoing efforts to enhance traffic flow, the College has engaged traffic management consultants who are reviewing our drop-off points, especially as we continue to plan for future growth.
Your cooperation, patience, and consideration during drop-off and pick-up times are greatly appreciated to ensure the safety and efficiency of everyone involved.
Changes to dismissal time
At Marian, we have made some changes to the lesson blocks and dismissal times to ensure a smoother school day.
Each Wednesday, Year 7-11 students are dismissed at 2.45pm and Year 12 students are dismissed at 1.20pm.
Refer to Marian Campus Daily School Times - 2024.
Uniform reminder
We would also like to remind everyone about the importance of adhering to our school uniform policy.
This is achieved when families and school staff work in partnership to maintain consistent expectations. The uniform policy helps to reduce distractions and instils a sense of discipline and professionalism beneficial to learning.
We thank you for your support in ensuring all members of our community are meeting these expectations in 2024.
2024 Marian Campus Calendar
Stay organised and keep track with the 2024 Cardijn Calendar; designed to keep parents, students, and staff updated with important dates and events throughout the year.
After a significant production delay, the 2022 Marian Campus yearbook has been delivered and will be distributed via homerooms over the coming week. Marian Campus students from years 9-11 will receive a yearbook to be brought home. We apologise for any inconvenience this has caused. Year 12 students from 2023 can collect a yearbook from the Marian Campus Front Office during business hours.
First day for Year 7s
The anticipation was evident on Monday as the Year 7 students embarked on their first day of middle school. Luckily for the parents, our dedicated staff were armed with coffee to help ease any first-day nerves.
Excitement filled the air as they reunited with friends and teachers, ready to embrace the exciting adventures and challenges that lay ahead in the 2024 school year.
All other year levels resumed classes on Tuesday, bringing with them the familiar buzz of activity that filled the school halls. It's been a joyous start to the new school year, and we're thrilled to witness the enthusiasm and energy our students bring to their learning environment.
First day at Marcellin
On Monday, we welcomed our Year 10s on their first day along with the new Year 11s and 12s for their orientation day.
All students returned
Tuesday marked the eagerly awaited return of all year levels to Marcellin, and what better way to celebrate than with a vibrant BBQ lunch in the courtyard?
This gathering provided an ideal setting for new students to mingle with returning peers and staff, fostering a sense of community and companionship.
A heartfelt thank you is owed to Student Wellbeing Officer, Matt Williams and Student Mentor, Arlo Draper for their dedication in grilling up a delicious feast for our students.
New year, new tools
Year 11 students, who are about to begin their Certificate II, have started the academic year with new tool kits.
This initiative aims to enhance their employability during work experience with potential employers. Students have the option to purchase their tool kits, which helps them to arrive at their placements impressively equipped. This proactive move not only improves essential skills like ownership and organisation but also encourages responsible tool maintenance.
Tool kits were purchased from our industry partners, Total Tools (Seaford and Lonsdale), which demonstrates our commitment to providing students with high-quality resources.
‘Our Cardijn Way’
One of my aims last year was to develop a thorough understanding of all things Cardijn. Towards the end of the year, a sub-committee of staff was formed to discuss and formulate the key characteristics of Cardijn. Four key characteristics emerged: Faith in Action, Belonging, Integrity and Aspiration. These were then presented and discussed by a group of Middle School Leaders. Following further discernment the following summary of the culture at Cardijn emerged:
Our Cardijn Way fosters a culture of belonging and aspiration. We work in partnership to encourage, enable, and support students, families and staff to live faithfully and with integrity.
Patrick Harmer (Deputy Principal) and I presented and unpacked this statement at the Marian Senior and Middle School assemblies yesterday. Given that this year marks the 40th anniversary of the founding of the College this statement will form the basis of the Mission, Vision, Values and Ethos of the College moving forward. More on this will be shared with the community during the year as the ‘Towards 2027 Strategic Plan…..Our Cardijn Way’ is finalised with the College Board and Catholic Education SA.
Welcome to Cardijn for the 2024 School Year – Our 40th!
This week has unfolded very smoothly thanks to the significant efforts of the staff, families and students to ensure that all was in readiness for the commencement on day 1, term 1, 2024! There was a range of emotions from all as over 400 new students commenced across our three campuses. With an enrolment now of over 2000 students it is a far cry from the 101 students, 44 girls and 57 boys, who commenced on Day 1 in 1984! Throughout the year we will be acknowledging and celebrating all that is Cardijn as we look towards the next decade.
Wishing the community every blessing for the 2024 school year!
